In June, my sister and I traveled to visit my 93 year old aunt Agnes. Aunt Agnes is my dad’s older sister and she is a sweetheart. I have always loved her and thought the world of her. She is still a hard worker and go-getter at her age. She faithfully sews quilts with her church group for Lutheran World Relief…and she still drives.
Aunt Agnes offered to take us out for lunch. I didn’t think anything of it until I was in the back seat of her car and she was driving us to the restaurant….then I started wondering WHY DIDN”T I DRIVE?!?! No fear though…she was the perfect driver. If I live to be 93, I hope I can drive that well. We stopped at a cute little restaurant and she recommended the tomato basil soup. I ordered some and LOVED it…my sister did too.
I came home and decided that I needed to try to replicate the recipe. I tried this recipe from All Cooks, and it was very good.
I had a house full of kids at home so I made a double batch of this and a batch of ham and bean soup. There was extra tomato basil soup left over so I put it in two plastic containers, one to send home with Kelli, one for me. My son, Karl, was carrying the containers to put it the refrigerator and he dropped them. The lids came off and soup flew everywhere. UGH!
The floor was covered. The stove was covered. The refrigerator was covered…UGH! I was trying to figure out how we were going to clean that mess up…Then in comes Gracie and Puppycat. Within seconds both of the dogs were licking and licking.
So..I can honestly say that this soup is not only Jo and Kelli approved…it’s puppy approved too!
The soup sounds wonderful! What a mess to spill would be. Did you have to move any appliances to get it all cleaned up? I’m sure the puppies did a great job cleaning, good for them.
Yummy recipe! I have a pug, Biscuit, and she loves tomatoes. She would be right in the middle of the tomato soup.
Dogs make the best kitchen floor vacuum cleaners….cats try, but dogs are better by many degrees. The soup sounds good but I know DH wouldn’t.
