Well today is the last day for the carpenter’s for awhile. In fact, they will likely on be working a half day today. All of the sheet rock is up except for the broom closet in the kitchen and the just a little bit in the garage. That should only take them about half a day.
Yesterday they finished up the office. Originally there was a window next to the closet door here. Hubby closed that in as now the basement stairs are behind this wall.
I have plans for this little closet. It’s going to house our quilt book, “Country Girl Modern”, patterns and mailing envelopes….it will be mailing central. I’ll be having Hubby build some shelving for in there. It’s not huge but for now, it will work.
My job last night we cleaning….I broom and I became close friends. With my mood lately, it’s more like my vehicle than an actual broom. Yes…I admit to being a little crabby lately.
While the carpenters were working on the sheet rock we had an electrician do more wiring in the basement and we now have functioning lights in the garage and the basement. The plumbers stopped by and we have a toilet for the bathroom basement too. We did find out that one of the toilets that was originally in the house that we planned to reuse in the basement is not able to be reused so I will be making a run to Home Depot to get a new one…along with other things..dare I hope I am getting towards the end of these Home Depot/Menards/Lowes trips?!?!
With the installation of the toilet that means we can get rid of the porta potty. Ya HOO!! No girl likes a porta potty sitting on her lawn, including me!
On Monday we are expecting the dry wall guy to come and word from him is that he thinks it will take him just under two weeks to do all the work he needs to do… Loosely translated, I’ll be getting paint as my Christmas present present, as will Hubby, and I’ll be painting the weekend after Christmas (I hope)…any volunteers to help?!! After that, all bets are off as to when we’ll move.
Trust me, the first room I am painting is the kitchen so the cupboards can get put in. Then a bathroom so we can have the bathroom fixtures can be installed and then our bedroom. Once that’s done, I’ll be moving and taking boxes with in each and every time I go to to the house…and full scale moving is going to happen shortly after that. I don’t care if nothing else is finished. My patience are finished.
We’ll still have work to do in the house but then we’ll only be juggling one house. At this point that will be a HUGE relief!! I can sweep some dust or live with a few boxes easily enough. I’m just so tired of the back and forth and having two house that need attention.
Hang in there, Jo! You’re really close and it’s almost harder than when you couldn’t see any progress. You know I know what I’m talking about. Focus on Christmas 2015 – won’t it be wonderful?
I am so happy for you. I know that you are more than ready to move!
Jo, this is exciting! Can’t wait to see the finished house.
I am somewhat new to your blog and I can’t find the entry for the reason of your move.
I know you farm so I am wondering why you are moving to town. Just curious.
Oh,Jo, things will change !! You’ve been strong for so long, whats’ another month or so !! Just wait till you look at toilets !! Way too many choices !! Do you have a Habitat for Humanity in your area ??They get the floor models from the big box stores !! Worth a try !! I feel your pain! Believe me when I tell you that home remodeling is like childbirth – you forget the pain and then you have all the joy. We did a much more extensive remodel than you are doing and WE LIVED IN IT THE WHOLE TIME. For TWO YEARS! My “kitchen” was a sink on two sawhorses and a counter with our microwave and crockpot. The refrigerator was in the living room. We had NO EXTERIOR WALLS at all for a year, just blue tarps covering the framing. It was brutal. BUT, I love our home now and I guess I would go through it again.
Jo, when you think you can’t stand it and you get a little bummed about all the work, all the decisions, all the mess….just focus on the end result: A much deserved and worked for home that is all you imagined it would be. Soon you will be warm and cozy in your new sanctuary. Blessings.
Oh, Jo!! This is so exciting!!! The house is looking great – I am amazed at how quickly it has all come together, honestly!! You have made so many changes to this home in less than a year – crazy!! You are on the last lap of a marathon…hard not to get impatient when the end of the project is so near! So many ups and downs…remember waiting for the concrete guys?? Time to celebrate the last Christmas on the old homestead and celebrate saying goodbye to the porta-potty!!!
Been following along and know what it’s like for a home to be nearly finished. So thrilled for you when you spend your first night there. A job well done!!
You would find a good toilet very reasonably priced at the HABITAT FOR HUMANITY STORE if there was one near your town. You’d be so surprised at all the different things people donate there. Everything from shower doors, sinks of all types, windows, nails, lights and way too much to list.
Waiting for the BIG CA RAIN STORM TO HIT HERE IN TULARE tonight.
If I lived closer, I live in Omaha, Ne I would come and help you but not until 2015.
It will be all worth, you are doing what lots of your readers would love to do. Iowa is a great state (I love the beauty of that state).
