Thrifty Day

I stopped at the thrift store when I had a doctor’s appointment.

These are the goodies I bought.

Most of the things I bought were for finishing cross-stitch. The spools were $1 each. The box was $4.

I found another jewelry box. I’ve been looking for another box like this. It was $2.

You might remember I finished something for Kelli on a box like this. I pulled out the inside stuff…

Here is a picture of that…

The one I purchased was a little different but I can finish something similarly. You can read about the finishing HERE.

I like to do simple cross stitch in small metal frames. This was only 25 cents.

I bought this cutie for 50 cents. He’ll go in my winter decor box for now.

I found some flannel I hope to sent to Jazz. I had trouble sending a package last time, and it got sent back to me.

I found these two fabrics on a different day when I took Anders to speech therapy. The red piece is 2 1/2 yards and was $2.50. The floral was 1 1/2 yards and was $1.50. I thought that was a pretty good deal. I think I have a layer cake to go the floral print.

I had some fun thrifting…

I’m so fortunate to have great thrift stores.

  1. Jo, l didn’t know something you sent to me was returned to you! I’m sorry that happened.
Please notify me whenever you send it so l can be looking out for it, and l will let you know as soon as it arrives.
    Thank you so much!

  2. You found some very great things! Is the first little box made of cedar? I have one like it that was given to me (or any senior girl) when I graduated high school 61 years ago. I still have mine. A furniture store gave them out to us – miniature hope chest I guess. It will be fun to see what ends up in the frame and jewelry box.

  3. I have a little cedar box like that also, class of 81. It was a promotional piece for Lane hope chests, given to senior girls. Still has things in it from my high school years! Great find.

  4. I made a cross stitch for one of those jewelry boxes, I wish I could post a picture. I used “Do what you love stitch”. A free chart from Fat Quarter Shop’s freebies page. I also used that pattern to make a stitch jar using a Mason jar for the smalls exchange at Stitch North.

  5. I, too, have one of those little cedar boxes. As others have said, they were given out to senior girls by local furniture stores to promote Lane cedar chests. I was class of ’68. Wonder what senior boys got? Haha! Do people still buy cedar chests anymore?

    1. I don’t know if people still buy cedar chests anymore, but I believe the Lane company is no longer making them. Seems like I went down a rabbit hold one day a couple years ago researching about it.

    1. Ha! Sandi, I got mine for my 1969 graduation, as well. Maybe we were classmates! LOL ~Suzanne in Michigan

  6. I can top all of you. I have one from 1957. That sure dates me, doesn’t it? Jo, I love what you did with the other little box.

  7. Mine is from 1964. Imy fiancé bought me a Lane cedar chest before our marriage -will be 59 years in August. Don’t have my little box any more but big chest holds needlepoint Christmas stockings made almost 45-50 years ago.
