I told you in last night’s blog post that my daughter, Kalissa, and I had a day on Saturday morning and ended up at Maker’s Market in Sumner. I showed you a whole bunch of pictures and told you that I bought two things when I was there. I left you hanging and didn’t tell you what items I bought, and suggested that you guess.
If you remember this picture…

I bought the cutest little heart. I would have loved to buy a whole basket of them, but they were $6 each, and I don’t have money for that silliness, especially when I can sew. Isn’t it cute??
It has a hanger on it but when/if I make some, I’ll leave that off. I’m envisioning a basket of pink and red ones for Valentine’s and a basket of patriotic ones for 4th of July…maybe morph the idea and make eggs at Easter. It was seriously cute…or at least I thought so.

Any guess on what else I bought?? If you guessed this, you’re right.

I guess I should narrow it down. There are LOTS of things in that picture.
I tried to throw you off by saying I was out of room for furniture…But I bought the cabinet. I just love it. I hesitated slightly because I had to disperse something in order to have room for it…and the item I was releasing had family connections.
When Kramer’s mom moved out of her house, the kids split things up. Kramer got her secretary. Here is a picture with Kramer’s mom and our kids when it was still in her house. My kids were little.

Kayla is in the yellow shirt. Buck behind her. Then Kelli and Karl. Kalissa is in the teal colored outfit. The secretary is behind them.
I have loved the secretary and have been very happy to be the caretaker of it for these few years, but as I’m aging and my health gets iffy, I’m feeling the need to pass things on. This was my chance to pass it to one of the kids…
I thought this new cabinet could go in its place, and the secretary could be passed to one of the kids. That’s what happened.
I put the names of the kids who were interested in a hat and then pulled a name. Karl was the winner. I cleaned out some of the other things in the cabinet. Grandma’s buffalo dishes went to Kayla, and she’s taking some of my chickens, too.

I LOVE it. The price was right, too. It had been in the store for a bit, so the owner called the consigner and said she had a serious buyer in the store. What would they take as the lowest price? They said $250. I immediately said yes. Originally it they had asked $400, but it had been there a bit.
Nothing like a little retail therapy to get me out of a slump.
Kalissa and Craig took my van and delivered it to me. Craig was being silly and stoic. Kalissa was just silly. She was so happy she was able to carry it in with Craig, even though Craig kept saying he wished Karl was there to help. HA!!

Oh my word…it looked exactly like I envisioned it.
I am in love with all the little cubbies. Imagine all the cute little cross-stitched pieces that can go in it… Maybe a couple of folded quilts in the lower, bigger openings.

The top is perfect and not too deep…think more cross stitch!!

I am just thrilled with this. You can see I kept these chickens. I kept all my chickens from Ila, too. Those are in the kitchen.
Once I get things more set up and a few goodies made for the cabinet, I’ll take some living room pictures, and you can see that it really is a good fit for me. The living room feels so much cozier because the cabinet is bigger.
I am 100% happy with the change, and so happy Karl can now enjoy the secretary at his house. I made a little stipulation that if I give away anything that was passed to me from family, the kids HAVE to offer it to another family member before they can just give it away. The kids were all good with that.

What a great piece! You will really enjoy decorating this, because it is so versatile. The price was perfect; it was meant to be! I wish I could talk my kids into taking some things…
I love that piece! I saw it in the photo but you often say you don’t have room so I didn’t think you’d get it. I’m so glad you did. It looks great in your house. All those little cubbies will be perfect for cross stitch smalls and it will be such a showpiece! I like your idea for using the hearts too. I’m glad Karl can use the secretary. It’s nice to keep family pieces in the family. Now if only our kids felt that way……….
Oh wow, Jo. That cabinet is beautiful and will be so much fun finding things to put in it. I love your idea to put some folded quilts in those large spaces, and the little quilt folded on the door. It does the soul good to make a change like that! And I bet Karl is feeling the same with his new piece of furniture! Glad to hear you made the stipulation about trying to keep things in the family when they are ready to “get rid” of something. We tell ours the same thing. Most of our things have a history……
Yay! So glad you were able to make that cabinet work in your home. I can see you with your little can of furniture fix touching up all those little spots before it gets too full of your precious cross stitch projects. I see a little heart in a lot of those cubbies! Enjoy!
Love all of these posts! You really give me the pep I need to get back to getting things done!!!
What a great piece of furniture! You will love it more and more as time goes on. I think the little heart is adorable and would be so fun to make some like it. Okay, now I have something else I want to make!! I’m still trying to get to making some bunnies.
Oh my golly Jo, so exciting! That cabinet was made for your house, so cohesive, meant to be! You’ll have so much fun filling it up. Love love all your ideas and yippie for Karl too. XO
I love the cabinet and thought you might just buy it, its a great piece and since we didn’t know the price from the 1st post it made my list. I was surprised by the cute little heart, since you can easily make those. I love all the needle work cute little items you make for your wooden dish. So nice that Karl took the family item and that others wanted it also, how nice. I look forward to how you continue to decorate the new piece.
I looked at your original picture of that cabinet for a long time, wishing I could have it, so I am glad you bought it. It’s so different from anything I have ever seen and those cubbies are fabulous. Good for you!
Love the cabinet and you plan for sharing your family’s things. I hope you write down all the facts you know about the pieces before you pass them on. Future generations will thank you for all the information.
