Saturday Kelli and I went do Waterloo to get some of the light fixtures for the house. Â Hubby and I have looked before and had something in mind but not set in stone. Â He’s was okay with what we had in mind so with his blessing I went to make some final decisions. Â I have told you before that I am not a good decision maker so this was a task for me.
I didn’t want anything really modern..but wanted a line of lights that coordinated. Â The house is pretty open so the lights need to flow from one room to the next. Â It only took me about a half hour to decided….that’s because of the previous research I did…and because Kelli was a good help and willing to listen to my reasoning. Â The dining room light will be this…
The rest of the main floor level lighting coordinates with it. Â You can see it here.
We had other errands and tasks to do (I’ll tell you about that in later posts) and then headed home. Â I opened the far garage door to put the lights away and came face to face with a mess. Â We had been storing our rugs for the new house over that bay and apparently a little bit of rain came in under the door and got mold on my wonderful braided rugs. Â I was just sick!!
Look at the mold. Â It makes me just want to cry. Â I was so upset. Â I’m not a real materialistic girl but this made me sad. Â We googled on how to clean it and there was no real consistent information.
That’s when Hubby suggested just using the power washer.
He hooked it up and started washing. Â Right now they are hanging-hopefully drying. Â I am not sure how that’s going to do though…we are expecting rain all week again.
They look pretty good but until they dry, I’m not holding my breath. Â I am hoping we can get them dry-they won’t fade too bad and the mold stains will go away….here’s to hoping.
I have had VERY good results with vinegar and hanging out in the sun. Mold and sun are mortal enemies. Good luck.
You might give vinegar a try if the power washing didn’t work.
You might also try the stuff they use to get black mold off of houses. It is called “black out” I think. Check out the inatruction first though. We get it at Home Depot. I would be totally upset too. That rug is perfect.
Good luck.
Hope it comes out. Please update us when you know. Thanks.
You might try soaking the stains with Dawn dishwashing liquid. Use the clear. Just reading how this is being used for more than just dishes. Soak for more than an hour then wash. Hope this helps, those rugs a very pretty.
I know you’ve already had lots of advice, but here is a fab site for removing mould and mildew by an Australian who is know as “the queen of clean” all over Australia!

All I can recommend is baking soda and vinegar for cleaning the mold out. Aside from being an inexpensive cure and clean-all, it will be safe to use around the dogs! We have 4 little Shih Tzu, and I use this method all over the house! Also, I really like the lighting you’ve chosen for your new house – very tasteful!!
