The Birthday Girl

Today is Kelli’s birthday.  She always teases and says that she is my first favorite..and I guess she is.  She is the first born after all.

I really appreciate having her for a partner with our quilting.  She does lots of things that I’m not especially good at.  I do most of the quilt designing.  I give her all sorts of papers and then say, can you figure out how to construct this…and she does.

She figures out the yardage we need…she writes the patterns.

She challenges me to do things that I don’t believe I can do.

She’s my daughter but I’m really lucky that I can call her my friend too….Lots of mom’s have daughters but they can’t always call their daughters their friends.  I’ve gotten lucky three times.

I’m not always real good at showing affection or telling my kids how much they mean to me.  Today I thought it might be appropriate to stop and tell her this.

You are a good and faithful daughter.  You make me laugh.  You make me cry.  You get me to buy clothes.  You are the reason my vehicle turns into McDonalds for Caramel Frappes.  You are a good wife and a good friend to me and to your dad.  I am so happy that you quit sewing wild oats and started sewing quilts instead.  It’s been a joy to watch you grow into the great and talented person you are.  I hope I am here to watch you grow for many-many more years to come.

I know you love words and sayings.  Here’s one for you Kelli from A.A. Milne.

“I knew when I met you an adventure was going to happen.”

Happy-Happy Birthday kiddo.
