Earlier this week, I was really wanting to get some yard work done. As I mentioned, a friend stopped by and helped me with part of it. There was more to do. Then my radiation got moved up…then a lot of rain in the forecast has me really wanting to get it done even more.
There is an alley at the back of my house. When the person who cleans the streets in the winter came through, he ripped up part of my grass. UGH. I likely won’t fill it in with grass seed, but I did have to clean up the mess.

I had two helpers stop by after school…my grandsons, Gannon and Carver. Carver was on wheelbarrow duty when I snapped this picture of Gannon. He was trying to learn to hold his shovel straight so the debris wouldn’t fall off the shovel.

We got that done, and Kalissa still wasn’t at my house to pick them up, so we went to work on the north side of the house.
I have iris all along the north side, and they always collect so many leaves. I got down on all fours to clean it out, and immediately Carver said, “Grandma, let me run and get your chair.” He knows I like my chair when I’m working on stuff outside. If your mobility is an issue, I highly recommend a little chair like mine.

I got up and used it after he brought it.
We got most of it done…then Kalissa came, and my helpers left. It was okay. I was almost done.
You remember I had the itch to get as much done as I could…so I finished the other flower beds along the north side of the house. I’m so happy it’s done.
I told Kalissa my back had been a bit of a problem all day…but after working, it felt so much better.
If I just sit, everything tightens up. I have such a fine balance between doing enough so I’m not stiff and sore and doing so much that I’m pooped. It’s also a task to get people around me to understand that. My kiddos and people close to me worry that I’ll fall or do too much. Seriously…the biggest problem is me just sitting. Daily, I’m getting better and better at knowing…Now I just need to get them to trust me. HA!!
The last thing I want to do is dry up. If I’m living, I want to truly live.

Thoughtful, kind, caring and helpful, all your kids and grandkids show the same character traits. Someone did a good job raising them.
By all means keep moving. Maybe not such strenuous yard work. Hahaha! But if you don’t use it you lose it! From someone 20 years your senior!
Yay you for moving. Movement is our best friend as we age. As you already know, sitting is indeed the enemy. Congrats on getting so much done!!!
Wishing you a wonderful Easter weekend.
What a productive day you had with your two great helpers! It’s so nice that Carver and Gannon are old enough to assist you with chores like that.
Oh to have such good little helpers! We could use them about now. My husband is so anxious to be out in yard working but he is healing after shoulder surgery and so it isn’t what he should do. Your place will look great again when spring finishes showing up. Enjoy your helpers whenever you can.
Such great helpers! And so handsome!
Hi Jo!
I don’t know if it is age or injury, however my body sounds like yours. I have to strike the balance between working on my feet, sitting and sewing, sitting to rest, walking. I can’t do any of them all day. It’s a blessing to find the right balance. You are doing good.
I would take 1-2 projects to stitch so I could see a big jump in progress, Just in case you feel poorly, it would be cheering. I’m also a reader so I carry a book or two everywhere. Maybe a little hand sewing.
You are in my prayers :)
Heidi
huge thanks to Carver and Gannon !!! Also impressed with Gannon’s sticking with learning about shovel control rather than chucking the whole thing when it was not working up to his standards.
Hope you and your family have a Blessed Easter weekend.
I know how you feel – getting older, there always seems to be a fine line on doing things we always used to do. Another learning process I guess. I do a lot of work with my family’s chickens. Found out the hard way that I CAN NOT pick up a 5 gallon bucket full of water. 40 lbs worth. :-/
So glad you have some great helpers! They’re awfully cute too!
Love and prayers
wonderful that you have helpers! And you are right it is hard to get people to understand that you just want to do what you can. Movement helps a lot of things.
Slowly but surely your getting your yard buffed up for summer. Its wonderful to see Gannon and Carver giving you a helping hand. We were hit with ice and bad weather the past few days and lots of power lines and trees are down, including in our yard. Will make spring cleanup truly a full day’s work. I’m grateful we didn’t lose power like so many others. The line crews are giving it their all. Happy Easter to the Kramer Clan.
What good boys to help you!
