Sunday Stash Report

I got some fabric this week….but I didn’t buy it.  I won it.  There’s two half yard cuts from Quilt Taffy.  Every Thursday the gals over at Quilt Taffy have a little give away.  This week it was two 1/2 yard cuts of my choice.  These are from Moda’s Make Life line.  I have two charm packs that I need to use up and this extra fabric might just be the push I need to use them up.  THANKS gals…Oh the are having a HUGE sale this weekend…if you need to add to your stash.

The mail man also delivered a package from Amazon…I new quilt book, Nickel Quilts and Borders by Pat Speth.

book

I have three of Pat’s other books and have liked all.  Pat does EVERYTHING with five inch squares.  Here’s a link to my favorite quilt of her’s that I made.  I am not a real fan of that as it sometimes isn’t efficient to cut fabric into charms first but I love her quilts….no surprise as they are all totally SCRAPPY.  If I like the quilt but not the cutting method, I just cut it out my way instead of the five inch square way.  This book is FILLED with border ideas.  I know some of my quilts could use a little border boost.    The front cover says that there are 260 different borders in the book…here’s a sampling.

WOW…I will be looking and studying these borders for a LONG time.  My challenge with borders is always the math…hopefully she has some suggestions for that too.

Back to my stash report….

in 1 yard
out 0….I’m sewing…just not finishing and I never count the yardage until it’s bound and finished.

Tomorrow I will be picking a winner for my giveaway…head on over and check it out if you haven’t yet.

  1. Looks like you new book has lots of fun border variations. I’ve got two of the nickel quilt books but I also end up making them from the sizes I have on hand.

  2. Cute fabric! I’m starting to buy books for the techniques discussed and for inspiration. I think we all get used to our own cutting and sewing methods, that we disregard those parts of the instructions! Liz

  3. I just got this same book a couple of weeks ago too! I haven’t had a chance to use it yet though, but it’s sitting on top of my cutting table so I don’t forget about it!

  4. The Nickel Quilts books are great eye candy, and I’m working on the same favorite as yours – the Paducah Nine Patch. The 5inch squares craze was started by these books, wasn’t it? I don’t recall charm packs and all of the other pre-cuts before her books came out. I had already cut out lots of 5inch squares so I worked from those, but am glad that I made a couple of samples to realize that the seams were not going to butt up nicely. The borders book is enticing, though!
