Kelli’s kids have had the summer off. Those three are a handful but a happy handful. Kelli has tried to take extra PTO over the summer to try to cut down on child care costs.
They have been going to some of the local libraries’ summer programs. Since we live rural, she can catch them at various libraries. On this day they checked out a guest speaker talking about reptiles. Here’s Emmett.
She picked this event to go to specifically because Emmett is was into dinosaurs and reptiles. Georgia is very much a tomboy so it didn’t surprise me that she was happy to go too.

There were lots of interesting things to see. The snake skins were allegedly SO COOL!!

It’s expensive for a pool admission, so on a couple of days, Kelli has taken them to the river at the dry run. It’s a safe place that is shallow that the kids swim. They are true farm kids.
Kelli said they caught this minnow and were excited about it. They would put it back in the water and catch it again. HA!! I love simple entertainment out in nature.
Summer is winding down. School starts next week.
Eli is not happy about that at all. He’s already plotting to sneak off and go farming with Dad. It’s going to be new for the boys, as they won’t have the same teacher this year. They will be in different sections. I’m a little worried that Eli won’t like that. He already doesn’t like school. We’ll see.
All I know is that library visits…and river swims are soon coming to an end.
Missed you but so glad you had a good trip. Smart thinking to not publicize being away from home. You know what we think of t!he critics. As far as we know, we get one go around in this life. You deserve every chance you can get to experience new things and spend time with those you love. Thank you for sharing everything you can! Really enjoy all of it!

Great fun. My twins were one of six sets when they started school. Fortunately, lead teacher had a trick when they noticed any anxiety. The anxious twin was asked to take a note to the teacher of their twin. There were scribbles on the “note.” Receiving teacher would “sign,” seal, and ask anxious twin to return note to their teacher. My youngest twin frequently had to take a note to older twins teacher. She would come home proud that she delivered something important.
well that was a lot of fun. Has the pool always been super expensive or a recent increase due to all the summer job type things suddenly paying what more skilled employment used to pay?
Also curious whether the parents of the twins made the decision to separate them. or school policy ??

I loved those library trips with the grand kids. So much fun and good memories. Our library trips were once a week. I’d take a picnic basket and we’d have lunch outside at the library after they got their books or participated in something “cool”. Once a month it was McD’s.
I’m not sure they remember much but I do know those memories are great for me!

One can tell that the kids loved their adventures. It is so good that Kelli takes the time to do these things with them. I grew up on farm and we never had adventures like that. Of course we didn’t miss it because we didn’t know about that. Such cute pictures of Georgia and boys.
Looks like the kiddos had a blast! Creeks & rivers are big fun, especially for little explorers.
The Library looks like an awesome time too! Libraries sometimes get overlooked, but even our rural one has some fun events ~ monthly craft kits (for kiddos & adults too!), reading days, even exercise classes. My fav area is room with books (+dvds, cds,etc) for sale at super low prices.
Hopefully all will go well with the start of school. My Dad was a Farmer too, so I understand Eli wanting “to go farming with Dad”.
I have missed reading ur blog. Google kept telling me “storage close to full”, so while i was deleting gmails, yours kept standing out to me. I’ve not been good about even opening gmails in a long, long time ~ and ive sure missed reading yours! One of the first things i thought of when i saw urs was ur Violets.
Free entertainment is always the best!
Last year we took our daughter to the river and took along a clear plastic bowl so we could see the minnows and crayfish we caught. She loved it! This year we take her to therapy in a town forty miles away. Insurance covers therapy, but the cost of gas and stopping to eat lunch is hard on finances. One day we decided to grab a cheap Little Caesars pizza and went to the local park. My daughter was absolutely enchanted by the squirrels coming within a few feet to beg for handouts and the birds that would swoop down and grab what the squirrels missed. Last time we visited while it was raining and sat under a pavilion eating our picnic lunch and the squirrels still came to investigate.
Discovered there’s a few small museums in that town and hope to visit them in the near future.
I love these fun days ! I was impressed by the clear water of the river ..when I was a kid, we swam in a place like that ..that was in the late fifties and sixties ..I never see that kind of clear water in Oklahoma
