On the String Challenge front….
For those of you who have been following along with me, you know that I’ve challenged myself to finish all of the quilts in Bonnie Hunter’s new book String Fling before her new string book comes out. As of now I have three quilts left to make….
Pineapple Crazy
Tulip Bed
Daylilies
Being that I finished Charlotte’s Baskets I thought I might as well get going on Pineapple Crazy. It’s my closest quilt to a finish.
I have the center finished.
All I need is the outer blocks…there are 60 of those.
Here’s where I am at with them. There are
21 completely finished and de-papered
16 need de-papering
15 with the center done
7 with centers started
That totaled is 59.
Being I need 60 I needed to print one more paper.
When I started this project long ago I made these master copies. I need the top part for Pineapple Crazy. I hate wasting paper so on the bottom I put Wild and Goosey blocks. I didn’t know if I would make that quilt at the time I was printing these but I thought just in case I do, I’d have these printed and wouldn’t have wasted paper.
After all of this work of making a larger paper pieced quilt, would I really make another…..Hmmm.
I print all of these on cheap tracing paper from a dollar store. It has been a life saver in working this project. I HIGHLY recommend printing on tracing paper. The first blocks I did without it. After that I switched to tracing paper and I will NEVER paper piece without tracing paper. It’s so nice to work with.
I got my LAST block printed. THE END IS IN SIGHT!!! I almost can’t believe it….it’s been a long process.
I am going to be so happy to have completed this long term project. Seriously…I never dreamed I could do this. So will I go and do Wild and Goosey? It’s a paper pieced project too. I’ve been thinking a lot about whether I want to start another….I have a lot of the papers already printed…but I’m sure I could pass them along to one of you blog readers. They wouldn’t go to waste. So here’s what I decided…..Print more papers!! Why not start Wild and Goosey when I’m done with this? I think the blocks will be much easier to piece. I’m not racing to need to finish it.
As long as I had the tracing paper out, I printed a few more papers…I’m not starting it until I have a few other things finished but it’s definitely on my some day in the near future list.
You’ll find me back here next week. My hope is that I am done sewing the blocks. Fingers crossed.
I finished three quilts yesterday. One I quilted, all three hand to have the binding hand sewn on the back. all smaller quilts so they went fast. Feels good to be able to gift them.
This is an impressive accomplishment to be this far on Pineapple Crazy. I’ll be honest. When I consider making this quilt, I think about how much larger I want that block. ; )
I finished my On Ringo Lake mystery quilt on Saturday. This is the 5th Bonnie mystery I have made. I lost my mojo when I had to add the sashing. But it’s done now, except for quilting.
Still plugging along on “On Ringo Lake”. I got half way through the sets of flying geese and there it sits. I’ll get back to it once I get a binding done. If I don’t hibernate it, it will be a minor miracle. I was kind of underwhelmed by the amount of coral (NOT my favorite range of color). But I have been looking at all the alternate settings and getting some ideas. It just needs to ‘simmer’ for a bit.
I got the center of a grad gift put together, the blocks for another one put together, strips sets for a third made and while at the speech meet on Saturday, I finished the bindings on 2 baby quilts. However, please do not come to my house and ask if it is clean. The laundry is done, but that is about it. LOL! This challenge is keeping me going.
Wild ‘n Goosey is definitely easier to piece than Pineapple Crazy, plus you can use up all those small triangles! Love your quilt – I changed mine to a pillow top.
That pineapple quilt top is beautiful!
How do you use thin tracing paper in your printer? Does it feed through easily??
I previously bought padded paper that is almost like newsprint from the Dollar Store but didn’t see any tracing paper. I’ll have to go have a look and try that. Also I enlarged my Wild and Goosey 25%- the original was just too intimidating for me.
Love your Pineapple Crazy quilt with all of the bright colors. I never saw tracing paper at the Dollar Store. Could you post a picture of the package so we know what to look for?
