String Challenge

Here we are back at it fresh on another new week.  I had a great weekend and I’ll write more about that at another time.  For now, I need to tell you about my String Challenge progress.

I did have some progress.

Hubby and I went on a road trip up the booth in Harmony at the antique shop.  I grabbed all the string blocks I had done and all the spider web blocks I had and ripped papers off the back along the way.  I’m happy to report that I have

more string blocks complete for Daylilies…. I added 11 more blocks bringing it up to 29.  I need 48 total so I’m over half done.

and I have spider string blocks done.

I also did this….I worked the pinwheels that will go around the center of the Daylilies quilt.

I thought I had them finish but alas.  I am 9 short.  UGH.  Back to cutting them out but first I am going to rummage through the sewing to make sure I didn’t misplace a few blocks.  That happened to me with another project.

My goal for next week is to finish the rest of the blocks.

Coming up the first weekend in August I’m going on a quilt retreat.  I think I am going to bring my string quilts and see how far I can get on them.  Wouldn’t it be awesome if I could really do a lot of them?  I’m still well within striking distance of my goal to have all the quilts from Bonnie Hunter’s String Fling book done before her new book comes out even if I don’t take them to the retreat but, it sure would be nice to have them done early….we’ll see.  If I keep plugging away on Daylilies, I might it finished before then….hmm, maybe I should make that my goal.

  1. I am trying to get motivated to do a major clean out and organization of my sewing room going, but I need to set aside some dedicated time to get at it. I did get Easy Street quilted last week, now to pick a binding and get it on. . .

  2. I so wish I could join you again at the retreat but it is not happening! Have a great time-I am still working on my quilts from last year but am getting there on my mini spiderweb. That is my goal for July to get that top done.

  3. My husband is gone for 2 weeks, so I am hoping to get alot accomplished. I finished a top for my son’s friend this weekend. I want to get it quilted to enter in our local fair the middle of July. Next I want to finish Bonnie’s leader/ender challenge from last year so I can start the new one. Several other UFO’s I can work on if I get bored!!

Don’t you love the new L/E project? Do you make HST from the 8 at a time method? I sure do love that for 3-4 inch HST’s. Not so much for smaller than that, but maybe with practice.

  5. As of yesterday I finished the last of the 18 gift quilts for my SIL’s grandkids. I used up so much stash fabric both from myself and my mom. I am beyond thrilled to be done!
