Over the weekend I taught class at a conference in St. Cloud, Minnesota. That’s a drive, a five hour drive, for me…and what’s a drive without a few stops at quilt shops.
I managed to find fat quarters on sale for $1.25 at The Calico Hutch in Hayward, Minnesota.
And I managed to find GUITAR fabric at Gruber’s in St. Cloud.
My son Karl is a senior this year and I was hoping to make him a quilt for graduation present. I have made him quilts in the past….a dinosaur, a Harry Potter, and a band/saxophone quilt. I was so excited at the prospect of making him an “adult” quilt….one without novelty fabric. Then I asked Karl what he wanted. I showed him some pictures and he said, “I just have one request. It has to have guitars.”
Well I was a little sad because I knew it would be hard to find something for an “adult” quilt yet use novelty fabric. Well I have been looking and looking and I am in LOVE with the guitar fabric from Gruder’s. It is brown and blue….perfect for a backing. So the current plan is to make a brown and blue quilt and use the guitar fabric for a backing. I am so excited….
So to my stash report.
6 yards of guitar fabric for backing
4.75 yards worth of fat quarters
= 10.75 yards in.
3 yards for my bubble quilt out.
Tomorrow I will be picking a winner for the circles to make a “bubbly” quilt. If you didn’t see that post before, you might want to check it out.
Tomorrow I will also be showing you how my “Patchwork Times” quilt a long is coming….so far, I’m loving it!
The guitar fabric is great! It’s perfect for a guy quilt.
Great looking guitar fabric. I love Grubers — and I’ve only been there once — on a road trip.
