Yesterday was my birthday…Here’s to 48 being a good year. Â I had an awesome day. Â My brother Jay and his wife Steph came for a visit. Â Steph decided to give quilting a try…you know what that means….Kelli and I wanted to do everything to encourage her so we saddled her up with all my used but not used up spares. Â She got a half of a 6″ x 24″ ruler that had broke at the 13″ line…still usable being I gave her the part that went from 0-13″. Â I had a rotary cutter she could have being I had my Splash one that was sent to me and I rounded up a cutting mat. Â All were used but not used up. Â It’s hard to start out quilting not knowing if you’re going to like it and then investing lots of money.
From there we dug up some scraps. Â We had left overs from when we made the Oink a Doodle Moo quilts. Â (Find the quilt patterns here.)
So we helped her and cut out this pattern using the fabric.
Atkinson Designs has the BEST patterns for beginning quilters. Â If you’re new to quilting or if you are trying to get someone started with quilting, I highly recommend them!!
We also gave her the left overs from our PB&J project. Â (You can find the free pattern for this quilt here)
With them she is hoping to give this quilt a try. Â It’s another Atkinson Designs quilt.
With all of the leftovers I have no idea how much fabric that was that went out of here….I’m just not even going to count it…probably 9 yards or so. Â I really hope that Steph takes to quilting…it would be great to have another quilter in the family.
I used up some more fabric for binding charity quilts…
Used this Week: Â 2 yards store bought for charity quilt bindings
Used year to Date:  190.5 yards store bought +  48.5 Moda fabric + 62.5 yards of recycled fabric…
Quilters are such giving people. Always willing to share knowledge and our stashes. We seem to have duplicates of everything!
This is so nice of you! I’m sure it is much appreciated. ~Melanie
Happy Birthday, Jo! I’ve made the Slide Show quilt; it was super easy. I love Terry Atkinson patterns, too, always go to together so well and she has excellent directions. Isn’t it fun to encourage a new quilter!
Happy Birthday Jo, I didn’t know we shared a birthday Month as well!
Happy Belated Birthday Jo! I enjoy reading your Blog!
