Stash Report

Last week I told you that I took a bunch of fabric down to the quilters in the Oelwein area just south of me.  Well I had written that entry Saturday morning.  Saturday evening a friend of mine messaged me and said, “I have fabric that would be great for charity quilts.  Do you want it?”

I said yes and then arranged to meet that evening.  I wanted to get the box, sort and then send it with the fabric I already had ready to deliver.

I always chuckle when I get fabric from someone…they often think it isn’t “good enough” or they tell stories that they tried to give it someone else but that person or group wouldn’t use it.

This was just fine for charity quilts….

I think some of these were salesman samples.  This one has a label at the top with branding information.  Aren’t the ladies in swim suits a hoot?
Here’s another example of why I think the fabric was salesman samples…see the numbers stapled to the fabric? Here you can see that some were grouped together to sell the fabric line. The giver of the fabric said I could do whatever I wanted with the fabric.  I ended up sneaking these few pieces out….Check out the batiks with the silverware in the print.  I saved the snowman fabric and a turtle piece.  Someday I am going to make an I Spy quilt. I also saved the Monopoly fabric.  Kelli keeps telling me that she is going to make a crazy backing for her Perkimon Daydreams quilt top.  The fabric is suppose to represent all the things she loves.  Kelli is a Monopoly fan so this was perfect….the domino fabric went in the box.It was a fun weekend…One lady was happy to give fabric…on was happy to receive fabric and me…I was happy that I could help get them together.

Remember if you ever want to give fabric to a worthy cause, you can can find a place to give it to by referring to the tabs at the top of the blog.  The one that says “Quilt Donations” will help you find a group that would be happy to get your donation.

  1. Jo!!! I wish I would have known that you wanted to get rid of those blues in the set. One of them is in my “It was the 80s” quilt and I could use more……

And for a scrappy quilt, anything goes. I wish I had friends that gave me fabric LOL.

  2. I had a fabric saleswoman once gift me a car trunk full of those fabric samples since she was moving across country. Took me two days to take off the cardboard and staples and I had big totes of usable fabric. Made 500 10 inch squares for the guild, made loads of quilts, still have a couple of totes of fabric left.

They can add a punch of color and design.

  3. Oh my, I LOVE that swimsuit fabric!! Two weeks ago I made a square footstool out of the velvety decorator squares I had, and stuffed it with the scraps from deboning shirts and my fabric wastebasket. The squares I got from a sale at JoAnn’s, and I worked to take off the paper labels. Somehow I prefer making things out of “nothing,” rather than cutting up new fabric and re-sewing it together.

  4. Hi!

I live in Australia and know shipping costs! xx :-)
