Stash Report

Thrift store karma has been good to me lately.

This is haul from two different shops on two different days.  It’s always fun to go thrifting.  I never know what’s going to be there.

Stash-6

Shopping in “town” just isn’t for me.  There is no excitement….one Wal-mart is, for the most part, the same as the next.  One mall is also, for the most part, the same as the next.  It’s not fun to go anymore.  Added to that, now quite often I’ve heard, “We don’t carry that in stock but you can order it online”.   Well why drive to town to shop if I’m only going to be sent home to order it online?

Thrift stores…this NEVER happens!  The stock is different each time I go.  Sometimes I find a treasure trove of fabric…the next time I find goodies for the childcare kids.  It’s never the same.  Sometimes I find a couple good quality cotton sheets for charity quilt backs…sometimes I find an outfit for Carver.  That’s one of the many reasons I love them.

Another reason I love them…I know this sounds silly but I can afford anything I want in the ENTIRE store.  I don’t have to worry that I can’t afford anything.  I know that sounds silly but there is a real comfort in knowing that anything in the entire store could be mine if I choose it…I can even go out on the limb and buy 10 items…where else can I do that??

The red polka dot and the red stripe are all over 1 yard cuts….50 cents each.  The two light colored fat quarters…25 cents each.  The other pieces were all in a scrap bag together for 75 cents.

I’m not sure what will happen with the Minke.  I am thinking I might make a couple doll blankets for the childcare kiddos and this might back one…who knows…it might go in the box of fabric for charity too.

Oh my I love thrifting and happy news for me…my two favorite thrift stores are not staying open until 6pm at night.  I can get there after childcare hours.  That deserves a big WHOOT-WHOOT from me!

  1. Good points! I go WM once a month for groceries and necessities then come home and say, “I could do inventory for them on ny given day because nothing changes.” That is typical of all the big box stores. For me to go trifting I have to drive 75 miles one way. Yes, if I need to go that direction that is what I do.always love to see your bargains.

  2. Love thrift shopping and my latest treasure that I’m hunting for is a cute sewing basket for when I’m putting on bindings. I know there is one out there just calling to me and if I don’t find it for months, so what it will show up eventually. You got some great pieces, keep on thrifting! we are with you.

  3. I LOVE thrifting too. You never know what you might find. Some of my best finds here lately…..an Eddy Bauer Barn coat brand new WITH the tags still on for $30 …..fit me perfectly. A tan Singer 301 that was sitting in a sewing cabinet that didn’t fit it for $30. ( I let them keep the cabinet!) And even the purple fabric that I am using in the BH mystery came from a thrift store!! Always fun!!

  4. Lucky girl! Great haul. I can never find anything worth having at my local thrift store, although to be honest I’ve only tried going to one, which is Salvation Army. I think there’s an Assistance League thrift shop, I should try there next time.

  5. I too share your love of shopping at thrift stores. At my winter home in AZ, there are 15 Goodwill stores within a 10 mile radius and that’s not counting other thrift stores. I could do nothing but shop at them all day and not be out enjoying the sun or sewing. The only time I’ve found fabric was the 5 yard piece I returned as it was moth eaten when I unrolled it at home. It was probably prepackaged for that reason and I had to make a fuss to get my money back. I’ll keep looking though.

  6. I’m definitely going to have to look into thrift store shopping. I live out in the country, but surely there must be a couple more stores in the town about 12 miles from me. Maybe I should start getting up garage sales .
