When I was at one of the local quilt shops I added to my neutral collection…
I don’t know what it is but I have been obsessed with neutral fabric lately. Â I’ve been collecting and collecting. Â What I’m collecting for, I’m not sure. Â That doesn’t seem to be deterring me though. Â I love scrappy quilts and I especially love scrappy quilt with scrappy backgrounds. Â I didn’t have many fun scrappy neutrals so I started collecting.
You might just be surprised at how few there are. Â At each shop I go to I might find 8-10 but that’s about it.
After hitting up a few quilt shops I have a good amount now but I doubt that will stop the collecting. I just love them…they are so cute!
Besides, when you go into a quilt shop don’t you feel like you should buy something…I sometimes do. Â So..I buy a few quarter cuts of neutrals.
Kelli thinks I am crazy but she does the same thing…she’s slowly starting a batik collection. Â So how about you? Â Is there something you’re collecting when you visit a quilt shop??

Mind was black on white and white on black. I knew I wanted a black and white quilt. Made two queen size from the stash and still have a lot of fabric left over. And yes I feel like I need to buy something as they are little stores. If I went into say Joann’s I do ot feel like I have to buy something.
I don’t always buy when I’m in a LQS, but I buy enough so that the owners in all 3 shops recognize me. Don’t tell that to my husband, though!
I like beige prints. They add so much visual texture. I want to make a couple of Bonnie Hunt’s Jamestown Landing, one in blue and one in green, but they’ll use so many of my beige neutrals!
Hi Jo & Kelli! I have some batiks that I can donate to Kelli’s stash. . . I’m saving some, but I have more than I’ll probably ever use. Please let me know if you’re interested. I’ve been collecting civil war repros lately – neutrals and small scale prints are tough to come by. Also, trying to find some great reds and greens for the Chester County Criswell Quilt and Noah and Matilda and Beyond the Cherry Trees – oy, that’s a lot of applique!
I’m always on the look out for neutrals. I like to make scrappy quilts, so I feel that I can never have too many.
If I don’t have something specific in mind, I will buy a little bit of whatever catches my eye!! But I am collecting black and white fabrics for some unknown quilt project in the future!! I don’t know what it is yet, but I just want to be prepared!!
I feel the same way you do when going into a quilt shop. I always buy something.
I’m always collecting neutrals, especially with an ivory or tan background. Lately, I’m also collecting small florals. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with them, but I just want them!
For the last 20 years I have been obsessed with prints of sewing motifs. Some are small as fat eighths to some in multiple yards. Any color or style. One year I made Christmas decorations for my quit sister’s and my houses. Lots of fun and good memories.
