Slowing Down

I always get comments from people wondering how I get done what I get done. Well all I know is this. I won’t be getting as much done. I’ve been spending much of my week doing this instead….

Yep, feet up. Not particularly relaxing. I’m here mostly because I have no other choice. I screwed up my foot. I’d take a picture and show you but no one wants to see my ugly feet. Let me just describe it to you instead. The ball of my left foot is swollen and PURPLE. It’s really gross.

It happened Monday evening on the night of my birthday. Suffice to say it happened because I wasn’t acting my age. Kelli and I were at the computer talking. She was talking about all the things she wanted to do over her Christmas break. She had a long list. One thing was to finish getting her sewing room together. I told her to do it tomorrow so it would be done and not hanging over her head all break long. Kelli is notorious for being on her phone so I said put your phone downstairs and tell yourself every time you want to look at it you have to go up and down the stairs five times before you can use it. She said no way because going up and down the stairs five time would have her legs burning. I said it wouldn’t and before we knew it she was running up and down my stairs five times. She was complaining about her burning legs and said well you do it then. I did. Only when I went Puppycat (Kelli’s dog) and Ruby flanked me one of each side. On my third time up, I tripped trying to avoid Puppycat. I caught myself by scrapping my arm down the woodwork on my bedroom door frame and somehow really screwed up the ball of my foot in the process.

I didn’t go the doctor…I’m sure it’s just a sprain. I can walk hobble on it. When I wake in the morning after being in bed all night, it feels really good. Working all day and being on it gets it all swollen again but it’s something I have to deal with. I can’t work and keep my foot up all day..I am sitting and reading more book than ever though.

For those who remember my last fall complete with ankle and shoulder problems, the injury before was to my left foot/ankle but this hasn’t irritated the old injury so that’s good as that isn’t 100% yet either.

In the evening I’ve been keeping my foot up either sewing with the leg on a stool, working on the computer with my leg on a stool or sitting and stitching…I guess that’s what I get for not remembering I have a 50 year body now! No more stair races for me!!

  1. Aw, Jo, I’m so sorry to hear about your accident. Dogs and cats have a habit of getting of here too. A bum foot is no fun. You need it for everything so its hard to rest it. Your daycare kiddos will no doubt relish the idea of playing nursemaid and taking care of you. The good news is that it doesn’t have anything to do with your age…50 is nifty. :)
Here’s hoping you’ll soon be ready to dance the jitterbug… and happy belated birthday! Be well soon!

oops…duplicate comment. Sorry. Guess I wanted to send you another batch of get well wishes so you’ll heal twice as fast! :)

  3. Lol Jo….II go up and down the stairs 10 times a night ( part of my new excrising program) when I first started doing it my 2 girls and the dog would chase me up and follow me back down. This went OK for the first the second day. As I was coming down my youngest was going up with dog. When the dog decided she wanted to go down instead with me and turned around. Knocking the little one of balance. I seen this happening grabbed for her and I ended up falling down 8 stairs. Don’t worry little one didn’t fall at all. I still have bumps and bruises every where. Lesson learned that day even though it gave the kids great excrise the stairs needs to be a one person climb at a time. Oh and now the dog goes in kennel when I do my stair climb cuz she was the trouble maker ;)

  4. Better get it checked. It could be a stress fracture break. Not exactly fun when Christmas Day rolls around. Sorry for the Humpty Dumpty,

  5. Sorry to hear of your injury. I took an ugly spill in an asphalt parking lot a couple of weeks ago and had nasty road rash on my hands, feet, knees and legs. Not a good way to start out a couple of dayso Captiva Island. It’s healing OK but still ugly.

  6. Sorry, my fingers slipped. I meant on Captiva. Anyway, I hope you heal quickly. It’s a good excuse to put your feet up even if it is at a busy time. Take care of yourself.

  7. Sorry to hear about your accident. I’d like to make a suggestion about your foot. I had bone spurs on both of my heels for a while. So I looked up home remedies and found soaking my feet in water as hot as I could stand with Epsom salts might help. Well, I did that for a week, every night for 20 minutes and that was probably 25 years ago. Not another problem. I use that when my feet are especially tired and sore. Just a suggestion. But then again, being able to sit and put your feet up and work on hexies isn’t totally a bad thing either. Have a great Christmas!

  8. Go get an X-ray! You could have broken a bone in your foot! This happened to my husband recently – his foot was swollen after a fall. His doctor gave him a boot to wear for eight weeks, and said that if he didn’t wear it, the tendons in his leg would pull the fracture apart, and it would never heal properly.

  9. Sorry about your accident. Next time you’re racing up & down the stairs put the dogs outside first…safer for you and them. My right ankle has been bothering me since earlier this fall, my left hip hurts if I walk about five blocks, slipped & sat down hard on the side of the tub so had a lovely big bruise, banged the front of my thigh Tues. so have another bruise and I just hurt all over at the best of times….a 60+ plus body has it’s issues. An older friend says it doesn’t get any better. Ah, the golden years!
