Saturday night I posted a picture and told you that Ruby had a little accident. Â She hooked the “skin” in her arm pit and left a gash. Â She didn’t really bleed at all, the skin was just lifted.
It really didn’t seem to bother her at all, she still ran and jumped and was her usual self.  Sunday morning she was the same.  Then Sunday late morning she quieted and wasn’t  herself.  I called the vet explaining that the flap on skin would need to either need to removed or stitched up.  He recommended cleaning it good and waiting until Monday to take care of it.
We have an appointment for later to take her and get it taken care of. Â It has a hanging flap of skin that will likely have to be removed.
More traumatic than the skin removal will be the car ride there.  Ruby just doesn’t like car rides..and it’s 45 minutes there and 45 minutes home.  I’ll let you know how everything goes.  In the meantime she’s spending  her time sleeping on the couch.
Hope Ruby survives the ride fairly easy. Our cats HATE riding in the car. It’s coming up on time for their annual checkup, so we’re going to have to go through that as well. Hope Ruby feels better and is back to her happy self pretty soon!
Hope Ruby is back to her old self soon. We are lucky. . . .both of our dogs love going for car rides.
Have an easy day,
isnt it amazing how we worry about our four legged children as much as we do our human ones?!! hope she does well. my boxer mix does not like car rides either because the only time she usually goes riding is to the vet. she shakes all the way there and in the waiting room, but once she has the vet and assistants petting her and she gives them plenty of sugar, she is ok and since mcdonalds is next door she gets a happy mill to take home and she is happy happy happy babscorbitt@gmail.com
If you tell the vet how much she dislikes the car, he can probably give you a mild sedative for her. We used to give one to our dog who got carsick. It didn’t knock him out all the way, just calmed him down and made travelling easier for everyone. So sorry your vet is 45 min away!
Oh, poor Ruby! Hope all goes well and she is feeling better soon. My pup had a little incident that led to a trip to the vet too (that I blogged about). http://cascadequilts.com And, she also does not like the car rides, it’s really difficult to get her to get into the car. I have to lift her (and she’s over 50# now, so it’s getting hard!)
Funny how some dogs just hate riding in a car… two of our Maltese dogs would get so upset that they got sick on the trip to the vet.. ours is also about 45 mins away… Vet told me to give them Benadryl about 1/2 hour before heading to the vet and it works… Calm dog, a little sleepy and no more getting sick. Hope your little one is OK…
Hi, found you on Moda Bake Shop. I am glad to hear Ruby is doing better. Poor girl. We have a saying, “It’s all fun and games until somebody ends up in a cone.”
I’m a quilter, and a professional Dog Trainer. You mentioned she hates car rides. I have an article that has helped many dogs overcome their fear of the car. I would be happy to send you a copy, if you like. Additionally, giving her some Rescue Remedy by Bach (also known as Five Flower Essence) and Happy Traveler by Ark Naturals can help tremendously. You can usually find these at local pet stores, Super Supplements or natural herb shops, and definitely on line. The Rescue Remedy has a pet version, but the human formula is safe to use. You only give 1 – 3 drops at a time, like in the water, on her food, a cookie, etc., every day. Thundershirts can also really help dogs who don’t like riding in cars.
Anyway, thank you for the beautiful quilt patterns you have shared! I hope Ruby is back to 100% quickly!
Best,
Gayle
