Ruby is doing a little bit better today. Â She’s still sore. Â I have pain meds and antibiotic for her so that helps but she’s still a little slow and not her usual chipper self. Â She is improving though.
Monday when we got home from the vet she was really groggy. Â She was also quite perturbed with me. Â I had asked about a cone and if Ruby needed one. Â The vet said it sometimes works better if you can get them to wear a small kids t shirt. Â She asked if I had one and I did.
It was a little kids onesie t shirt. Â I cut the bottom off and slid it on her.
I gotta say, she wasn’t a fan of it at all-but if this is the face I have to put up with in order to get her to heal, then I guess, I’ll just put up with it.
As the day progressed, it was a little better but not much.
I ended up really glad that had it on her as the wound oozed a little and the t shirt absorbed it.
The next morning I decided to try no t shirt. Â That lasted about 1 minute. Â She was licking like crazy. Â Back to my baby clothes that I put together for layettes for mission and this time, I found a tee slightly bigger and in red.
Either red is more her color or she’s feeling a bit better because she sure looks happier. Â Actually, I think she’s getting used to wearing the shirt.
Hubby is slightly mortified over the whole t shirt wearing as “his dog will never wear dog clothes”. Â I convinced him it’s much better than a cone. Â He agreed.
Isn’t it nice to see the progression in the pictures?? Â It’s easy to tell she’s feeling some better.
She’s not using her leg all the way yet. Â She’ll walk on it but if she’s just standing, she holds it up. Â She’ll stand at the top of the stairs and “ask” me to carry her down. Â Little by little, it’s better all the time. Â All I can say is that I sure am glad I work from home and can be there for her…I guess you could say she’s a little bit spoiled.
I had to do the same thing with my cat (wearing a shirt). I tried a cone, but it completely freaked her out…plus she had short front legs, so she had to walk backwards when she had the cone on.
The t-shirt worked great…except I had to hem the sleeves (she had to have “long” sleeves since it was her chest and leg she was licking).
Hope Ruby feels better soon!!
Glad Ruby is doing better. A skirt for her is like a hug from you!!! She’s smiling with her red sweater! Cute!!! For the winter months it works.
Our dog Teddy is a little guy. He’s a Morkie(Maltese and Yorkie mix) and loves his shirts. My daughter has bought a shirt for almost every occasion. He’s 4 yrs old and takes it off when he’s warm and looks for one when he’s chilly. I didn’t get it at first….but it’s like when we are chilly we look for a sweater too.
I like the t shirt idea. . . . I will have to remember that if the situation ever comes up.
Ruby definitely looks like she is feeling better. . . . and I am sure that you & DH are happy to have her getting back to her old self.
Glad to hear Ruby is doing better. She’s such a cutie.
Ruby is so cute and I just feel for her being on the outs. I sure hope she gets better soon! Give her a hug for me. =)
So glad to hear that Ruby is on the mend!
She looks better in red! it’s her “color”!
