On my trips back and for to Lacrosse I noticed that there was a quilt shop that I hadn’t noticed before in Mable, Minnesota. The shop is Krazy Kwiltz and they have a Facebook page here. I tried to stop one day but they didn’t open until 11:00am and when I was going through it was only 10:30. On Friday I had afternoon appointments at the doctor so I stopped. Hubby was along but he didn’t mind a drop..he took a nap. I’m so blessed to have him. He’s great with napping while I shop.
The shop shares space with an antique shop so that doesn’t leave a lot of room. It’s small and isn’t stocked to the brim but there are good fabrics and beyond that, awesome prices to be found.
I chatted with the owner while I shopped. Can you believe that she is not a quilter but a garment maker? She does lots of alterations of prom dresses and the like through her shop.
She doesn’t have a lot yet but plans to slowly grow as finances grow.
Looking for doll clothes or home made gifts, she’s got them here.
There is a nice organized stocked place to grab DMC embroidery thread. For me, I had going to the big stores if I can grab it quick.
Another row of fabric…the prices were awesome. Most bolts were priced about $7 a yard except for the batiks.
There was a little section that was clearanced priced at $3.99 a yard. My mind was screaming QUILT BACKINGS!!!
A local lady makes many of the samples that are for sale.
The owner told me the cutest story. With the VERY first quilt she made, she donated to a benefit to raise money. Her husband bought it back. He didn’t want her first quilt to be passed along to anyone. How sweet of a hubby is that??!!
I decided to start a new system when I do quilt shop tours. I am going to do a 1-5 rating….five being the best-I’m going to be stingy with my fives. This is just my impression on the day I visited and took pictures.
Warm and Friendly: 5-the owner was super sweet and very friendly
Selection of Goods: 3 but the prices were awesome
Neat and Organized: 5
Parking: 5
Cozy and Cute: 3
So are you wondering what I left the store with?
This….a cute little quarter yard cut of the pin fabric and backing fabric for two quilts. How can I go wrong with $3.99 a yard fabric for quilt backs?
The floral is the backing for Star Struck and the tan leaf fabric is the backing for a Country Threads quilt I made. It’s good to know I have the fabric to back them…now I just need time!
I will stop at this shop again…I love the friendly service and the prices!!
Jo, I have a friend that is looking for digital camouflage cotton quilting fabric. If you find any, please send me an email with the store address/phone number. She makes surgical hats and had a special request. These small stores might have some on a bolt and she only needs about a yard and a half. It is not made anymore.
What a cute place, love that you give us a tour and rate them. Ana Sweet, I may have the fabric you are looking for and I would gladly send you a picture of it if you reach out to me.
kimlemere@gmail.com. Jo, can you connect us?
Thanks for the tip, next time I’m out that way I will stop in.
On my list of places to stop at!
I love to support growing shops, as that is the way I started mine all those years ago. Will have to stop in when and if I get down into that area. Thanks for telling us about it!
