You might remember some time ago that I told you that Material Magic, one of the quilt shops in New Hampton Iowa was going out of business. Well the good news is that someone opened up a new store!!
This weekend I was trying to find a backing for the wedding quilt and nothing worked “right” that was in my stash. I knew to do the quilt “right” I really should run to town and get a great backing fabric and that’s what I did. From where I live there are five quilt shops that are all a half hour away…another is just a bit further. I tried to guess who might have the best batiks and that’s what I wanted for the backing. I decided it might be a good time to check out the new shop in New Hampton, Addicted 2 Stitching. I’m so glad I did.
The store is not located in the original store that Material Magic was located in. It’s a couple blocks west of there in an entirely different building. When I first heard what building it was in, initially I was surprised. The building is really narrow…but once in the store, I saw that it was great! It makes for a really cozy feel and that is just what I love in quilt shops.
I spied this quilt right away!! You might not be able to see but done in fireman fabric!
I talked with Patrice Shilling, the owner, and had a very nice conversation. She was very friendly and happy to share her experience of putting the new shop together.
I love the little post card patterns and she has a lot to choose from.
Looking for patriotic fabrics….Addicted 2 Stitchin’ has them!
These solids sure are great. I’ve been doing more with solids lately. Now I know where to find them.
…and fat quarter galore….
She has cute little vignettes set up that make the shop homey.
Material Magic always offered a lot of panel projects. Addicted 2 Stitchin’ is carrying that forward. That’s great as that is something the other shop in town doesn’t offer.
I found my batik backing in this selection.
I took my bolt over to the cutting station…how cute is this?
Material Magic also carried a lot of farm related fabrics. Patrice will be offering them now. It seems you can like any tractor company and they have the fabrics.
I spy John Deer fabrics here on the bottom shelf.
They are carrying embroidery floss too. Awesome!!
It was a busy day at the store. There was a shop hop happening. This week will be another busy week for them. They are hosting a Grand Opening Thursday, Friday and Saturday. How fun!
Many more people will be in to see what a nice shop Patrice put together.
I decided to start a new system when I do quilt shop tours. I am going to do a 1-5 rating….five being the best-I’m going to be stingy with my fives. This is just my impression on the day I visited and took pictures.
Warm and Friendly: 5 Patrice was super..her dad was too.
Selection of Goods: 4 They are just starting out. I am certain inventory will increase.
Neat and Organized: 5
Parking: 5
Cozy and Cute: 5
As you can see….I think the shop is worth your time to stop at if you are ever this way.
Can’t wait to check them out the next time I am down!
Visiting quilt shops is always a favorite of mine while traveling. This is one I need to visit! One thing that’s important to me is that’s there somewhere nearby that my husband can visit while I’m busy spending $$ in the quilt shop. Love those John Deere fabrics!
Wish I lived closer!
Give us an address please
Great Blog, I am glad you were able to check out the shop!
What a cute shop and it will be on my list the next time I hit Osage to see family. Thanks for the share and all those neat pictures
Wow! Except for the winters (ha!) lucky you to live where you have so many quilt shops close by! That looks like a great shop!
