Make sure to come back each day over the weekend to sign up for your chance to win goodies.
Today we are reviewing a new quilt book, Hand Quilted With Love by Sarah Fielke from Cico Books.
If Sarah’s name doesn’t set off any bells of recognition, maybe her book titles will: Material Obsession: Modern Quilts with Traditional Roots
, Material Obsession 2: More Modern Quilts with Traditional Roots and Quilting from Little Things…: Take a small idea and develop it into something wonderful
The book has 16 designs in the book and I really like lots of them. When my soon to be daughter in law, Jen, who doesn’t quilt was home she paged through the book. She loved the bright colors and the variety of difficulty.
She thought there were interesting shapes within the patterns. My 20-something son liked the blue one below….It would be a nice quick guy quilt.
Jen thought many of these would make great kids quilts.
I was a little mystified by the title of the book. I thought that each of these quilts was hand quilted, but I don’t believe they are. I believe “hand quilted” means home made.
There are lots of great quilts for using up scraps.
I think the one below is my favorite. I admit it, I am a huge barn raising fan (when the design builds from the center).
I am so very tempted to keep this book, but I am going to pass it on to one of my lucky readers. If you would like a chance to win the book, leave a comment here telling if you have ever hand quilted a quilt. We’ll pick winners next week. If you missed the previous giveaway’s you can check out giveaway #1 here and giveaway #2 here.
I have never hand quilted, but am currently working on making a ton of hexies to eventually be made into a more modern grandmother’s flower garden quilt….all by hand. The book looks awesome! Thanks so much for the chance to win :)
I used to hand quilt everything…until I tried machine quilting. I love how much faster it is by machine, but I do love hand work. That’s why I love my hexies!
I have never hand quilted a quilt (or any thing smaller either). Did buy a large hoop and plan to experiment with some hand quilting though.
Hi Jo– I am in a small group and hand quilting is what we do– 2 times a month we are sitting around the quilt frame quilting a member’s quilt! While I lean towards the reproductions, my young daughters love the type of quilts that are in this book– it would be fun to make a few for them! Thanks for the chance to win it.
I’ve never hand quilted a whole quilt. I’ve done work on wall hangings, but never a biggie. I think I am overwhelmed by the thought of it!
I have hand quilted little quilts and I think thats all I will hand quilt:) Thanks for the giveaway chances this week.
I have been hand quilting a wall hanging for 5 years. I am so tempted to rip all the stitching out and throw it on my LA and get it done!!!
So very generous of you to give this one away! I love Sarah Fielke – her fabric range is also as lovely as her books.
I have handquilted but then discovered longarm quilting:)
Hard to beleive I made a grandmothers flower garden quilt all by hand! Even handquilted it and hand sewed the binding. Tell everybody that I would be buried with that quilt but I plan to be cremated :)
I have handquilted small pieces in the past. Now I have a longarm and I love not having to baste!
I used to hand quilt everything, until I broke my quilting finger. Now, after almost a year and much machine quilting, I am able to hand quilt. I think there is a place for both in my quilting, depending on what I am making and for whom I am making it.
I never have hand quilted, I have always used my machine!
To date, no I haven’t hand quilted, but tomorrow I start (a bucket list item) as I am joining a hand quilting bee with women who are willing to teach me. Yahoo. I am so excited.
I have never hand quilted, but I would love to give it a shot. I’ve seen this book around on various blogs and it looks amazing and full of so many inspiring projects/photos. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I have never hand quilted. However, I have helped my mom tie a quilt and I have added embroidery to the top of a quilt. My favourite quilt from Sarah’s book is the one right above your favourite!
I decided to make a Hawaiian shaped pillow for my sister. I needle-turned the design and then hand quilted the top with batting to make it more quilt like. It turned out really nice but it was a lot of work to needle turn. I love the echo quilting look. Thanks for the give away. Congrats on your daughter. K-
I’ve hand quilted little quilts, but never a full sized quilt. There are some lovely quilts in this book, really like the blue quilt
I have handquilted a pretty little angel wall hanging for a baby and I really enjoyed doing it. I would like to do more.
Great looking book! My aunt cut out a star quilt with scissors for me to hand quilt. I was in junior high at the time. Through the years I did get a few blocks done but didn’t finish it. The fabrics were everything from flannels to shirt weight fabrics to course weave fabrics. It was a real depression era mentality, utility quilt.
I only hand quilted doll quilt or small walhanging. Thanks for the chance.
I have handquilted two quilts and even handpieced one of them. Handpiecing and handquilting just takes too long so I would never get everything done that I would like to but I am giving some handquilting another thought for this coming winter.
I hand quilt all my small quilts. Although it is a slower process, the sense of accomplishment is something that makes you feel good. I have found that when I take a break from hand quilting, it takes time to get the flow going again. Larger quilts are sent to a long arm quilter. Thank you for the opportunity to win the book.
I have never hand quilted a quilt but it’s something I want to learn to do. I’m saving the first quilt top I made to hand quilt once I think I’m good enough at it. Thanks for the chance to win.
I started hand quilting a quilt many years ago, but never finished it.
I have hand quilted my children’s wedding quilts (4), but it takes me forever! Other quilts are machine quilted, so they can join the category of “finished”!
I have hand quilted one large quilt and lots of small ones – to me it is so relaxing – but much slower than machine quilting for sure.
Love Love Love the book – some really interesting looking patterns in it.
Of course who wouldn’t love to win it..
Thanks for the chance.
MaryLou
My very first quilt was hand pieced and hand quilted and oh so “hand” wonky!!
I love the quilts in the book. My favorite quilts are the scrappy ones. This book has some very interesting patterns that I would love to make. Thanks for the giveaway.
I have never hand quilted anything, I have a good friend who pieces/quilts all of hers by hand!
I do all my piecing and quilting by hand, cannot afford a sewing machine with a budget of less than $400.00 monthly for disability. I have made over 200 quilts and given them to charities and a few to family. I gave to churches for raffles, cancer awareness, the critical care neonatal unit at my local hospital, the humane society and any other charity that was for a good cause.
Now i want to make me a chemo quilt. babscorbitt@gmail.com
I have not hand quilted a quilt but have hand quilted a couple of pillows and a small wall hanging.
I have never hand quilted… thanks for a chance to win this great book! I love that last quilt too! :)
No I have never hand quilted I’m not sure my patience or confidence could handle it. My sister in law is a pro at it and I admire her. Thank-you for the chance would love the book
This looks like a book that would be used a lot & a good way to use up all of my scraps.
I have added small bits of hand quilting to pillows, but not yet tried a large project. I have hand pieced a few blocks as well, that I finished into a sampler quilt in time to take camping this weekend!!
i have hand quilted several quilts. The very first quilt I made was hand quilted because that is what the book said to do! Needless to say, I have learned a lot since then. I like hand quilting, but just never seem to take the time anymore.
I have never hand quilted a quilt but I do lots of hand embroidery to use in the quilts.
I have done very little hand quilting, but it is on my bucket list. I want to learn to do hexies and applique.
I’ve never hand quilted a quilt. I do a lot of cross stitching, so hand quilting does not appeal to me.
I have hand quilted several quilts, including two king size one. I have been wanting this book. Would like to win it.. Thanks
I’ve hand quilted one time only – a lovely wallhanging with deer for my husband.
I have never hand quilted a quilt. I do like the look and think I would like doing a small quilt but a large quilt seems so overwhelming to hand quilt.
I hand quilted a lap quilt for my mother early in my quilting life. It turned out nice and she has it one the couch, but I never wanted to do it again. Now I own a statler stitcher.
I did some hand quilting on very first quilt. Then, I discovered machine quilting:-) I love the look and texture of handquilting though. Can’t be beat.
