Quilt Finish: Train Tracks Leftovers

You might remember I was working on a quilt called Train Tracks. I had planned on making it bigger, thus more blocks…but then, after the blocks were made, I decided to add a border instead. Here is that quilt…

That quilt is still a top…I need to get it on the longarm.

I had an idea to use some of the leftover blocks. This was my idea…I would use the blocks from the original quilt on the sides and add two different sized blocks using the same technique.

It came along quickly and was a lot of fun!

Here are the original side blocks…

Here is the center block…

…and here are the corner blocks…

I added a border to make it a little bigger.

I bound it with the same fabric that I used for the border. The fabric was gifted to me by Ila sometime last year. I’m just getting around to use it now.

She also gifted me the backing fabric. I wasn’t quite big enough, so I did some piecing. These are two orphan blocks that finally have a home.

All in all, I think the quilt turned out so cute.

Rosie’s coloring almost matches the quilt. So cute!! That was a fun baby-sized/small lap-sized quilt to finish. I have four more blocks left over. I thought about making another of these…but then also thought about using them as backing for the original Train Tracks quilt.

Hmm. We’ll see what happens.

  1. I have had that brown wheat border fabric in the past. I don’t remember if I got it at Joann or Whittles Fabrics. It’s a great Civil War era fabric. I think I’ve used all of mine. Love the train tracks quilts. Very pretty.

  2. Love the two quilts – I have often though about doing a train tracks – rethinking again ;-)
    Love and prayers

  3. Beautiful! I love this scrappy quilt and I’m sure I will like the bigger one too. Rosie is a very cute doggie.
