I met a deadline. I got my Serpentine Spider Web Quilt finished. It had been stalled out on the long arm for some time. Now it’s finished.

Here, let me take you in for a closer look…

The quilt was inspired by Bonnie Hunter’s quilt in this book, String Frenzy. You can find it HERE.

The quilt is for my great-nephew as a wedding present. I figured he was getting married in the year of the 250th anniversary of the United States so why not give him a patriotic quilt?

So how is my quilt different? I put a border on my quilt. A few years ago I made a spider web string quilt for my great niece when she got married. This is the quilt.

You can read about it HERE.
There isn’t a big difference in the quilts except that the patriotic ones’ strips are offset, and half blocks are needed. It does give it a fun and interesting look.
I liked this style of border on a string quilt, so I added one to mine. Bonnie’s quilt from this book has no border. For me, the border gives it more of a finished look.

If you want to make a quilt like mine, I thought I should point out that the first fabric strip that I sewed down was white or cream. I think that helps transition from the navy blue of the star to the mixed colors of the spider web string.
If following the book directions, technically, my kite shape size was slightly bigger. I had a kite shape cut when I made the first quilt. I took a pattern piece to the mobile glass store, and they cut a template on plexiglass. I used the same template for this quilt. It was cheap…like $4.
We included all sorts of blues, reds, whites, and creams. My friend Doreen gifted me a bag of scraps. She makes quilts for Quilts of Valor and isn’t a fan of small pieces, so she gifted it to me. THANKS DOREEN!!!
My daughters, Kelli and Kayla helped with the string piecing.

I bound it in the same navy blue from the center.

I love quilts like this. Made from a bag of scraps that weren’t wanted…yet turned out beautiful.
Doreen was so nice and gifted me a quilt backing…

You can’t see, but the fabric has the Statue of Liberty on it. I needed it just a smidge wider. I had some leftover border strips so I used them.
This was so fun to make…I always like string quilt blocks. Plus, it was an extra bonus to sew part of it with my girls. We can check that quilt off my list.

It’s lovely and a victory all around. I’m so proud of you for having it ready by your deadline! Well done!
Beautiful!
YAY!!!!!! for finishes. It’s a fabulous quilt. I like your border decision.
Happy Saturday Jo.
Another beautiful quilt! The white strip to start gave this a great frame for the blue stars!
I love how that turned out! I’m not a big patriotic quilt lover, but the way those colors go together in that pattern is wonderful! They will love it!
