Quilt Finish: Lady of the Lake

I finished my Lady of the Lake quilt.

I believe the pattern is in this book. You can find it HERE.

It’s a great book. I’d love to make every pattern in here…and many I’d like to adapt into full-sized bed quilts.

This quilt came about in my “I’m going to clean the sewing room island phase”. I had a bunch of red and brown half-square bonus triangles on my sewing room island. I also had a stack of large half-square triangles that a blog reader had sent to me.

I was looking for a quilt I could make that would use up a bunch of them, and I happened to be paging through this quilt book. It was a “no-brainer” to make this cute little quilt.

I ended up pulling some other bonus triangles, so there were a few pops here and there of other colors besides red and brown.

The colors are more like this. The lighting darkened the quilt in the other pictures.

I didn’t get fancy with the quilting motif…just a simple stipple. It’s my favorite on busy quilts. It’s scaled smaller as the quilt is small.

I was so tempted to continue making blocks as I love the look.

I did one thing differently from the pattern. The original only has one row of triangles around the outer edge. I added a second to match the inside of the quilt where there were two rows.

I’m so happy to have this one done. I have a little ladder that I hang small quilts on. One of the rungs has been empty since I bought the ladder. I was always going to make another small quilt, but I never got it done. Now I do! Yahoo!!

  1. Love this one! It will be perfect on the quilt ladder. The extra row of triangles is just right for the edge too. I hope you’ll show us a picture of the quilt ladder with the new addition.

  2. Hi Jo! I love this little quilt! I have a question for you. When I make a quilt that is all triangles facing the same direction, the top seems to end up skewed. Any tips for preventing this? Thanks!

  3. I really like this quilt as I always do – all your quilts are beautiful! It makes me want to dig out my HSTs and see what I can do that might be similar. I agree that the second outer row of HSTs really was needed and looks great!

  4. Love your Lady of the Lake! Colors are great together. I’ve been on a kick lately to pull out some fabric panels I’ve had for years, some vintage, and make them into quilts. I shyed away from them because I felt I never knew how to quilt them “properly “. Well, I’ve finally realized through reading your blog that finished is better than perfect! So, I’m tackling those panels and enjoying the results! You are an influencer and a motivated ! Thank You!

  5. I love your quilt, I have that book too, probably because you recommended it. The quilts are all pretty but smaller than I like to make. It seems most quilt patterns today are smaller. I have 3 quilts ready for additional borders. I love the fabrics you used, it’s a really pretty quilt.

I really like that quilt Jo, and the addition of the extra row of half square triangles looks great. I have that book and once I’m done the DD quilts I will be looking in the book to find a quilt to make. Thanks for sharing your quilts.
