Quilt Finish: Connie’s Fall Quilt

I’m so embarrassed by this finish-not about the quilt…it’s beautiful. I’m embarrassed by how long it took me to finish it. Connie gave quilt tops to me about three years ago, and I’m finally getting to them- well, at least one of them. There were three…this is number one.

She gave them to me so I could finish them and donate them to good causes in my area. I appreciate it so much. I get a lot of requests for quilts for benefits and fundraisers…and I see some and donate without being asked if I have a quilt available. With my long year of back/hip/leg issues, I ran out of donation quilts. I’m trying to get a few in my cabinet again. This one will be perfect.

Here it is all finished.

Connie did such a great job with colors. I always say a quilt has to have something going for it…

-the longarming
-the color selection
-the design

All quilts need one of those to make the quilt shine. In this case, Connie is the star with her color selection.

I believe this was Bonnie Hunter’s free block one year. Each June she puts out a free scrappy block and readers often make a quilt using that block. Connie made a few that year, and this is one of them. I believe the block is Easy Breezy. Connie just laid hers out differently.

This is the backing. I had a piece of fabric from the thrift store. It was color blocked. It’s the green, red, yellow section. I bought it for $1. I ended up added the bottom red strip and the top orangy strip to make it big enough for a backing. I ended up loving the back. I did a simple stipple for the quilting. Nothing fancy was needed, as the colors already had it classified as a great quilt.

I used backing leftovers to bind the quilt. I had about nine inches left over in the end. WHEW! I love when I can use backing leftovers for binding.

The wind picked up, and it started raining when I was taking pictures.

I hurried into the house and took the Rosie picture inside.

Awesome colors…such a beautiful Fall quilt. Thanks for sending it my way, Connie.

Right now, I have plenty of donated quilt tops. If you have some you would like to donate, please check out the Donations page HERE.

  2. I remember Connie from being at a retreat with her. She said I think Jo and I are going to be good friends. She certainly is a wonderful quilter as this Quilt just hits all the buttons for me. I was looking at all the blocks and was amazed at her color choices, fabric choices because some I would not have done, but then her Quilt turned out gorgeous. So Hi Connie!

  3. That quilt is gorgeous! It will surely be appreciated by whoever receives it. Or make lots of money from sale of chances. Your contributions were lovely: I love the perfect backing.
