Quilt Book Review: Sensational Quilts for Scrap Lovers

Before you read tonight’s post I want to apologize.  Life got away from when I was writing the morning post and I forgot to add pictures.  They are added now.  Go back and check it out.  You can find the post HERE.

C&T Publishing sent me some books to review.  I couldn’t have been happier to see the email.  Who doesn’t need to see something different, something inspiring, something to inspire.  Well this first book I have to show you is just that.  The book is Sensational Quilts for Scrap Lovers.  If you’re like me, you were caught right away by the fun book cover.

..also, so many designers say they make “scrappy” quilts but seriously, having two different colors of blue doesn’t make them a “scrappy” quilter.  To me, a scrappy quilt has MANY different prints and patterns, much like the cover quilt of this book….So, the cover looked good.  How did the inside look?

I’d say….
Fabulous!!  I really do like the book.  It’s very much a more modern look to scrappy quilts but not so modern that there is too much “negative” (or blank) space.

As always, C&T Publishing has given me the worse pictures to promo their book.  Seriously, this is the picture they give me.  The picture isn’t straight on….it’s taken far away.  UGH.  In the book it looks so much better.  But look at this quilt.  Isn’t it a great way to make a controlled scrappy quilt?

The colors are limited but still very scrappy.

The same with this one.  I sure like it too.

My favorite of the quilts that they provided pictures of was this one….

Blue and yellow quilts always make me smile.  I love the use of the neutral or background colors too.  How fun.  I read through the directions to make this and I love the idea.  Seriously…I printed out the directions and I think this one just might get made in a leader ender style.

Now…what the publishers didn’t give me pictures of so I had to take my own pictures of…The book talks a lot about color and scrap use.

Both of these topics are ones I am always drawn to.  I love to read how others view color.  I love to read about how people use their scraps most effectively.  The first 20 or so pages of the book are about that.  
One thing that I did not like about the book…this.  See the table runner on the right hand side of the page?  That table runner pattern is not in the book.  It is in a different book the author wrote.  She is using it as an example about color…but it is a little frustrating that the table runner pattern is not in the book.

There were some quilts in the book that I really liked that weren’t featured in the book…

One of my favorites, of course, was this fun scrappy quilt below.  I love quilts like this and really do want to make one.  For those of you afraid of jumping in and making something like this with no pattern, the great news, the book has a pattern for it.

It’s another quilt I’d really like to make.

I’m very much liking this book.  I really like all of the quilts presented.  There are 11 in all.  I can easily see me making a few of them plus the book has great information on color and scrap use so for me, this is book I would definitely be willing to spend my quilting dollars on.

I’m off…I’m going to grab some breakfast and read through two of the patterns I printed from the ebook copy that C&T Publishing sent….Oh, I love the privilege I have of being able to review books for quilt companies.  If only I could find a place that lets me listen to audiobooks for free and review them.
