Quilt Book Review: Quilter’s 10″ Square Precut Companion

C&T Publishing sent me a quilt ebook to review, Quilter’s 10″ Square Precut Companion by Jenny Doan and Missouri Star Quilt Company.

The book is nice but I would classify it as better for someone who has quilted before.

Here’s the table of contents.

It looks like you will get a lot from the book…and you do but…I want to make a word of caution. If you are a beginning quilter and need/want detailed instructions, this might not be for you.  If you have sewn a few quilts, I think you’ll do just fine.

Each quilt is only two pages long.  I took pictures of the computer screen so you could see….  The first page show the block and tells how to cut one block.

The second page shows…

a quilt made with the blocks.  There isn’t more to the pattern than that.

I’ve been quilting a long time and have no trouble with this.  I don’t know how I would feel about giving this to my 15-year-old niece who is learning to quilt.

I am betting that Youtube likely shows a video of each of the quilts in the book though and if you like video tutorials…this would be perfect companion to the videos.

Here are a couple more quilts from the book…

The quilts aren’t fancy.  They mostly are blocks and a plain border….which is just great but I thought I should make that note.

Projects vary in sizes….
Everything you need to know about making quilts with 10-inch square precuts Master 10” square precuts with this complete and indispensable guide! Sew 20+ traditional blocks with timesaving tips and tricks from the one and only Missouri Star Quilt Company. You’ll cover all the basics, including easy half-square triangle construction, cutting other shapes from 10” squares, and guidelines of how many 10” square packs are needed for different size quilts. Easy-to-use illustrations are at your fingertips in this handy, spiral-bound guide that’s ready to take with you.
I’ve seen this one done several times before as it’s been sent here as a charity quilt top.

All in all, I like the book.  I can see a person paging through it and then going to Youtube and finding the companion video…then to the quilt shop or online to find the perfect layer cake pack for the project.

For those of you who are big Missouri Quilt fans, I think you’d love this as it is a great book to page through to find the projects that you’ve seen videos on but have forgotten about.

My favorite project was for sure the tulip quilt….I’ve seen that before and have loved it.  Someday I might have to make it!

You can find the book HERE at C&T Publishing or HERE on Amazon.  (it’s only $4.99 as a Kindle download)

As I was making the links I noticed that Missouri Star put out a different companion book, Quilter’s Precut Companion.  At the time I wrote this, it was free for Kindle users.  You can find it HERE.

Thanks for the review, Jo! My friend made that Tulip quilt for a donation and I have wanted to try the Disappearing Hourglass for a long time now. I think I’ll stick to the video tutorials, though. I seriously don’t need any more books. I will say the last book I bought (a month or so ago) was YOURS and I am enjoying it SEW much!

Yes this is very much a Missouri Star Quilt book. As you know she does a lot with pre-cuts. Enjoy the quilts or the ideas to build your own.
