Outdoors Update

I don’t have all of my plants in the ground. You might remember I was debating about how much I would plant this year. My back, hip, and right leg aren’t always cooperating with me. So…do I plant…do I not? That was my big debate.

I decided that I thought I could plant the impatiens that I’ve always planted. So I picked those up several weeks ago. They got planted or two different days. I’ve learned that if I don’t push it too hard, I can accomplish things.

I planted the planter boxes one day. Carver was so upset with me that I didn’t wait for him. The next day, he insisted that we plan the other bunch. I told him before we plant, we had to get the bag of soil out of the van and put that down. The next thing I knew, I looked out the window and saw this…

He is such a hard worker when he wants to be. Obviously, I couldn’t put him off. I went outside, and I helped HIM. HA!!

Gannon jumped in and helped too…but not for long.

He ran off and played with Anders in the back of my van.

We got those all planted. I did go back and make sure they were all pushed down deep into the soil. They are looking better day by day.

I still need flowers for hanging baskets and planters around the house. Then I need veggie plants too.

I decided to plant the garden. It turns out Rick likes gardening…he’s even made salsa and suggested we do that together. Oh my word…Help??!! Yes, please. Also, he wants to plant the same thing I want to plant. YES!! I’m excited!! So we were planning to plant a garden soon. We were going to do it this weekend, but it rained all weekend.

Since I was outside, I thought I would take a few pictures…

My Columbine is just starting to bloom…there’s Allium too.

My Fern Leaf Peony looked great on Friday, but the rain over the weekend pounded off the blooms. I just have a couple left.

That’s okay…my traditional peonies are just ready to open.

At clearance at the end of the year, I had purchased some creeping phlox. It is just at the end of its season, but it turned out lovely. Many thanks to my friend Carla, who gave me a gift certificate to the garden center.

My Iris’ are doing great.

If you missed it, HERE is my Iris story and how they came to be at my house.

That’s the outside tour for now. I can’t wait to give you an update in a few weeks when other plants are looking good and the garden is planted.

  1. Your yard will be a showpiece once again! Just be careful not to let “just one more thing “ push you past the point where you need to stop. It’s going to elively!

  2. The iris are beautiful! They are ONE of my favorite flowers. We only have some of what I refer to as miniature iris, but I’m sure there is a correct name for them. They were planted here when we bought the house, although they have been moved to different spot. You have such wonderful helpers, and I’m not referring to Rick! Have fun growing food and cooking!

  3. Wow – your iris are really beautiful. And the boys were such good helpers for at least part of the time!

Your peonies look great. Mine looked so good last week with big fat buds. Now I’m afraid 27 degrees will kill them. I’m figuring that my rhubarb will be gone too. This year spring was a wash. It got so warm and plants and trees started waking when we had a frost. Then warm weather again. More plants popping out of the soil. Now down to 27. I just can’t believe this weather. Ugh!

  5. well, it was nice that Gannon decided to entertain his little brother and relieve you and Carver from that concern. It is so nice when the young folks begin getting intuitive about what needs doing.

We love to plant too but my husband can’t bend over much. He found an auger-like attachment for a cordless drill that digs the holes! It’s about 12″ long and was at Lowe’s but can probably be ordered on line. Let me know if you need a picture.
