Nine Patch Quilt Along….FINISHED!!

Over the weekend I finished up my nine patch quilt along!  Amanda Jean over at Crazy Mom Quilts provided the pattern and the inspiration.  It was a fun project.  When I originally started it, I was a bit sad that I didn’t have fun bright colors like others on the flickr group have used.  I just had Civil War reproduction fabric scraps…so that’s what I used.

It turns out that I love it!  I tried something new when I quilted it …I made a pebble type quilting-by son said it looks “Bubbly”….Check it out.  The quilting really “dresses up” the plain blocks.  I used a light brown thread…So Fine #427.

It was really fun to quilt.  I love trying a new design.  I ran out of thread and had to go to town to get more thread.  I used about 17 bobbins full of thread!!  WOW!!  It isn’t a  big quilt so that’s a lot!

I am giving the quilt away to our neighbor.  She milks cows with her husband and was injured by a pregnant cow.  The cow was in the maternity pen and hadn’t calved yet.  The cow freaked out and attacked our neighboring breaking 12 of her ribs and doing damage to some vertebrea.  I figured she could use a quilt to cuddle up with while she is recovering on the couch.

Here in the border, I quilted, “Be Well, Live Well”.
I ended up liking the quilt so much that after I finished it, I went to my scrap box and cut out fabric to make another.

If you’re interested, Amanada Jean is hosting another quilt along to make the same quilt.  Quilters sew one nine patch block each day for 70 days (or five one day because I forgot).  It’s day 42!  So most participants have 42 blocks sewn….I have 17 done as of now.  It’s not too late for you to join.  It’s a VERY easy pattern.  You can check out the flickr group for more inspiration!

  1. hi, i really like your quilt, it looks so different as to most of the other in the quilt along. i did one in the first quilt along but alternated my blocks with snowball blocks, it’s on my blog if you wan to take look. I’m still tempted to do another one! its addictive!!

  2. I really think the pebbles jazzed up the plain quilt. I am looking for anything different than stippling at this point. Any suggestions?

  3. Great quilt. I am doing the quiltalong too, and am going to end up with 3 smaller quilts. I hope that mine look half as nice as yours. I used the kitchen sink approach with my fabrics, so it is a maybe.
