New Beaters

For the first 20 years or so of our marriage, I bought a hand mixer every other year.  I would just burn through them that fast.  Then we never had much money and I wasn’t as smart about checking for motor size on things as I am now so even when I bought the best mixer at Wal-Mart, it still didn’t make it longer than 2 years.

Finally, about eight years ago, I bit the bullet and bought a KitchenAid KHM5DH 5-Speed Ultra Power Hand Mixer.  I’ve had that same mixer ever since…I love it and will say it again and again and again-it was worth the extra money.  At the time I thought the $100 (now $64) was a fortune but in reality I paid much more than that for the previous 10 or so mixers that I bought before.

After all these years I thought I was going to have to break down and purchase a new mixer as the soldering where the two pieces of the beater comes together on the bottom came apart.  It’s been that way for a couple months now and I’ve just come to the realization that it was time.  Before I gave up and bought a new one I decided that I would talk to Hubby and see if you could solder them back together.  Nope.  No luck.

Then he said to check Amazon before I gave up on the beater.  I told him that I already planned to buy a new mixer from Amazon…he said, “No.  Check to see if you can buy replacement beaters”…I did and Amazon had PART # W10490648 OR AP5644233 (2 PACK) GENUINE FACTORY OEM HAND MIXER BEATERS FOR KITCHENAID AND WHIRLPOOL which is exactly what I needed all for $7.64.  I was so happy.

This mixer has made so much food in the past years.  I hope it goes on make much more!!  Buy replacements from Amazon really makes me happy.  In the past year we’ve gotten a stove part, a dryer part and now a mixer part.  That’s save many dollars vs buying new appliances.

  1. I am on my second Kitchenaid hand mixer and love it. I too bought many over the years & several years ago bought the Kitchenaid. Wore the first one out. Motor died. Can’t complain though, I really use it alot. Glad you found new beaters. I kept the ones off of my first one. You know, just in case.

  2. It’s so re-freshing in this day and age of disposable everything. Kinda hard to believe the beaters didn’t cost almost as much as a new mixer. Which is why everything is so disposable. Vicious circle. I lucked out when a friend sold me her big heavy duty kitchen aid mixer for a song. They were selling everything to become full time RV-er’s. My lucky day for lots of her goodies and antiques.

  3. I know ‘they’ say a husband isn’t supposed to give appliances as a gift, but 14 years ago, mine gave me a Kitchenaid Stand Mixer, for a birthday. I was so happy and am still. . . had to replace one attachment, but was able to do that through the local True Value. I can’t even begin to tell you about how priceless it is, just in cookie dough mixing alone! :)

I was lucky enough to have an older model Kitchen Aid stand mixer given to me because she got a lovely new one to look nicer in her kitchen and her daughter did not like the old one so she thought of me and I am extremely happy. It is just like my Mom’s.

  5. Love my Kitchen Aid stand mixer for everything, especially for double recipes of cookies and making bread. The arms hold the bowl locked in place, no matter what I put into it. Guess you do get what you pay for when it comes to some appliances.

  6. I went through the same thing you did with the hand mixers before getting my Kitchen Aid. And what’s more, it’s a lovely purple!! :) Makes me happy every time I use it.
