My Nephew happened.  I got a nasty cold.  Bad enough that I am taking tomorrow off from childcare.  UGH.  I have plans for the weekend so I’m hoping this passes soon.  The headache that I’m having with it is a doozy.

I thought I’d pop in and share some family news….some that’s not so good.  My nephew Logan had a bad accident at work.  He works at a company that makes pallets.

Here he is with his family.  Logan is on the far left.  For those of you who know my family.  Logan is my brother Jay’s youngest son.

Growing up, at family get togethers, Logan and our son Buck always hung out together as they are close in age.

The accident involved a machine..and gloves…Logan getting caught in the machine and him ending up losing the three middle fingers on his dominant hand leaving him with a thumb and pinkie.

They tried to reattach one of the fingers in the ring finger position and did, but later had to go in and take that reattached finger off.  He’ll be left with just the thumb and pinkie.

He’s got a long way to go to get home including another surgery for skin grafting.

They started a GoFundMe page for him and the family.  Everyone is using up their leave time, staying in Rochester and having to eat out.  As I well know, there are so many costs to hospitalization that aren’t covered.

If you want to check out the GoFundMe page, you can find it here.  If you have good thoughts to send or prayers to offer, that would be so nice.

I’m off to blow my sore nose again.  I’m slowly working on the latest mystery clue.  I’m at a snail’s pace today.  This cold is kicked in on high gear at about noon today and has me so miserable.  Rosie isn’t into couch sitting so I pulled the Featherweight out and am putzing at the kitchen table.  We are on our FIRST day with no accidents.  FINALLY!!

We got snow here and it’s been a terrible distraction for her.  She gets outside and turns into a wild pup..forgetting what she’s out there to do.

I’ll catch you tomorrow…

  1. I tried to click on the where the GoFundMe page and the link didn’t work. Just thought that I’d let you know.
Prayers and Good thoughts for Logan and family. Thanks for sharing. Hope you get over the cold quickly.

  2. Hi Jo,
Happy New Year….Although it doesn’t seem like a happy one for you right now. We are sick too with that cold going around. It’s a miserable one too. I’m so sorry about your nephew. What a horrible thing to go thru.
Does he work in the farming industry or logging? It’s so difficult to become handicapped at such a young age.
Rosie looks like she’s the only one having fun right now… God Bless you all

  3. Hoping you feel better soon, Jo! Sorry to hear about your nephew. My Dad was in a similar industrial accident when I was in my teens. Dad came out 1.5 fingers better off. With time, physical, and occupational therapy, He will be able to function normally. New normal, but trust that he will be OK!

  4. Hope you get well quickly so you can enjoy your weekend plans. Good idea to take the day off so you don’t pass it to the kids.

Yay for no accidents for Rosie. She’s learning fast.

  5. Hi Jo Hope you are feeling better soon. Can’t find a link for the GoFund Me page. So sorry for this bad news. Rosie is adorable. Puppies and snow are made to go together. ruby is looking down and smiling.

  6. Sorry to hear about your nephew.
My husband and I are both fighting colds now, too. I have no energy but hope to get some soon. I don’t even want to go in my sewing room, so I am basically reading and sleeping . Hope we all feel better soon!

  7. Oh, Jo, that is so sad. He’ll recover and adapt but it will be a long haul. You have had your share of trauma the last year. Hugs!

  8. Jo, my husband lost the same three fingers on December 23, 1981 at the age of 18. They also reattached his middle finger but he lost it a week later. He has more strength with two fingers than some people have with a whole hand. He says he can do anything except give someone the “bird” and his high fives are high twos. Send me a personal message if you would like to speak further about it, or if you would like for hubby to talk to Logan.

I had the same type of cold you’ve caught. It’s more of a flu/cold combination and knocks you down for a couple of days. I hope you will be able to “play” this weekend.

Praying for Logan and his family. The GoFundMe link is working now! Rosie is a smart girl and so adorable. I’m so glad you were able to get her. I hope your cold/flu nastiness goes away quickly. I swear by Puffs Plus with Lotion all the time. The last time I had the flu I was going through a full box every day for over a week and my nose survived without getting to the red/burning/I-can’t-blow-my-nose-again stage.

  10. I’m so sorry you’re not feeling well… I am commiserating with you with my own doozy of a cold. Ugh is right!

I will think of you and pray whenever I reach for a tissue. I’m praying for your nephew too.
