My Left Eye

I have had an odd week dealing with my eye. Last week on Saturday my eye started acting up. If I rubbed my left eye, it was painful in the corner of my eye.

My daughter gave me some great advice. She said, “Gee Mom, just don’t rub it”.

By the time Tuesday rolled around, it was really bothering me. I could feel it every time I blinked. You can see in the picture above that my left eye is swollen. UGH.

I’m not one to mess with my eyes. If there is something wrong, I investigate. I can’t imagine my life not being able to stitch. So on Tuesday I went into the doctor. She looked at it and put me on antibiotics. I have a….

10 day supply. I’m going to hang out and take them.

My doctor suggested that I make an appointment with my eye doctor if things aren’t better in 10 days.

I don’t feel like my vision is impaired. That’s good news!!

After a few days on the meds with warm compresses a few times a day, things are getting better. My left eye is feeling much better…now my right eye is watering like crazy. I am guessing it’s all related but who knows.

I’m giving myself the few more days on antibiotics before I even think about it.

I’ve looked at my eye a million times assessing the swelling. I didn’t realize how noticeable it was until Kalissa took this picture of me. I was sure someone would ask me about it so I decided to just write and tell you about…so that’s my eye and the story about what’s going on.

  1. Last month, I thought that I had a bad case of conjunctivitis in both eyes. I went to the doctor and it turned out to be my first time having COVID. The doctor said that eye problems are not uncommon in some cases. So, I am glad that you went to the doctor.

  2. Must be the year for infections – both my ears were infected and sinuses also. Stubborn as I am, it took me a while to get to the doctor. “Why are we so stubborn?” :-)
    Hope you are feeling better!
    Love and prayers

You may have a stye. They are very annoying, you look like someone popped you. They do clear up fairly soon.

  4. My left eye has developed a tendency to create a stye in one eyelash root. When I notice one, I make sure to put on a clean pillowcase-even going so far as to flip my pillow over the second night, and change to a clean pillowcase the next night so my eye doesn’t get re-infected. The hot compresses last about five minutes, but seem to help. Now and then I wash my face and gently brush the soapy water across my closed eyes, rinsing quickly, to keep the eyelashes clean.
    Good luck!

  5. I made 2 “pillows” from double layer of cotton knit (2.0” x 3.0”). Filled with rice and sewed them closed. Don’t overfill. Heat about 45-50 seconds in microwave. (Note: microwave needs moisture so remember to put a coffee mug filled half with water in there too). I lay folded man’s white handkerchief across my eyes then the hot pillows. Heat is retained much better than a warm wet cloth & my eyes feel so good after this treatment.
