Any of you who read my blog regularly know that I just hate cleaning but really love cooking. That can be a little troublesome especially when I revamp a recipe to accommodate my kids. When our son, Buck, was home recently, I had made an apple crisp. I often make one when he comes home as it’s a real traditional food around here. Grandma Kramer made it all the time when we came to visit…I make it when my kids come to visit.
Typically I make it a 9″ x 13″ cake pan. This time, I decided to make it in three pie tins so that our son could take one home to eat. I tried to cut back on the liquid thinking it might run over in the oven when I made it..but, it ran over in the oven anyway.
You can see it oozing and dripping in the picture…UGH. I would take a picture of my oven and show you just how bad it was but I am going to just say….we aren’t going in my oven. My oven is a place that rarely gets clean. My self cleaning oven takes three hours to clean and I hate that the oven gets so hot in order to do it. Recently I was told about the LG EasyClean™ Double Oven Range. It cleans in 20 minutes and doesn’t get real hot to clean. I am definitely looking into getting one once I can talk Hubby into it. Ovens sure have come a long way. I remember the horrible smells of oven cleaner when I was a kid. I always thought the foam was cool but the smell.. YUCK! I love how technology has advanced to even clean ovens.
Would you like the apple crisp recipe? I have to warn you….it’s the same recipe I got from Grandma Kramer. That means it has a farm wife stamp meaning no real measurements.
Put 10 cups of peeled sliced apples in a large pan. Put enough water in the pan to equal half the height of the water. Put in one cup of sugar and cinnamon to taste (about 1 tsp). Start cooking it. In the meantime, make the topping. Melt 1 1/4 sticks of margarine. Add 1 1/2 cup sugar, 1 1 /2 cup flour, 1 tsp cinnamon and 2 cups oatmeal. Mix. Put enough in the bottom of your pan to cover set aside. Go back to the cooking apples. Prepare cornstarch and water to make a thickening. Stir it into the apples and water until thick. Pour over crust. Sprinkle the rest of the topping mixture over the top. Bake for 25 minutes at 350. I know…not much of a recipe but it’s the best I can do. If you put it in a 9 x 13 pan, it won’t run over. The only time you’ll end up in trouble is if you put it in three pin tins instead. UGH. Back to the LG Easy Clean Oven. I hadn’t heard about these until I was watching “Celebrity Apprentice” a few weeks ago. I was intrigued by them then and have gotten more and more interested in them. My current oven works but has taken a bit of a beating….and I would love a range with the two ovens in it. When all the kids are home that would be heaven!
Like I said…I’ve been reading up on these. I love the features. All LG double oven ranges provide a quick and convenient way to clean your oven, while still being able to use the conventional self-clean method. EasyClean works in three simple steps. Spray the oven interior with water, press the EasyClean button, then in just 20 minutes, wipe away any residual bits of grime*. No chemicals or high heat needed to keep your oven sparkling clean. You can learn more about the ovens here on their website. With the easy cleaning features maybe even I could have a clean oven!! I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I can talk Hubby into one of these!! In the meantime, I have good news for you. If you leave a comment here telling your families favorite “messy” recipe you will be entered to win your very own LG’s EasyClean™ Double Oven Range!! How cool is that??
