I’ve been busy making star blocks for my Hand Me Downs quilt from Bonnie Hunter’s Scraps & Shirttails: Reuse, Re-pupose, Recycle! The Art of “Quilting Green”.  I discovered that the star blocks come together MUCH easier if I use my Accuquilt for cutting out the pieces.
I am being a purist and making the quilt from 100 percent cotton shirts. Â Most of the shirts feature plaids and stripes. Â I am a little picky about having my stripes and plaids match..ok, I admit, I am really picky. Â I discovered that cutting the quilt is super easy with your Accuquilt Go! Â You will need your 4″ finished quarter square triangle die and your value die. Â On your value die, you will be using the 2″ finish triangle and the 2″ finish square.
Here’s a video showing a few tips on how to get those pesky stripes and plaids to match. Â If you don’t have a Go!…don’t worry. Â These tips can help if you are cutting out the quilt according to the pattern directions as well.
I just LOVE sewing these blocks. Â I hope these hints will help you become more confident when sewing with plaids and stripes. Â If you are looking for more projects I’ve made with my Accuquilt Go! check out this link.
Come back tomorrow and check out my latest project featured at Moda Bake Shop.
Thanks for this! I don’t have an Accucut, but I want to make this quilt next!
I’m working on Bonnie’s Many-Trips quilt. It’s an oldie pattern of hers, but I still love it.
QUOTE – “I don’t know if I’m just kinda goofy that way or if that’s a regular thing.”
I think it’s a regular thing ;) or if others vote for you being goof that way – then I”m Goofy that way too! I like all my stripes to be going in the same direction too! ;)
I’ve been having a lot of fun with my blocks and it’s fun to see yours too – I have to come up with a block with navy corner squares and rusty red geese with tan star points! I love yours!!
:)
Great job with your tutorial, I’d be way to nervous to ever pull that off.
Love from Texas! ~bonnie
Your blocks look fabulous!
