Made by YOU!!! Ariel’s Wedding Quilt

Oftentimes, blog readers make quilts from patterns here on the blog, our book, or quilts that were featured in magazines. The readers send pictures of their finished quilt, and I feature them here on the blog. It is the biggest compliment to me when others make quilts that are from mine and Kelli’s designs. I love seeing the variations of quilts I designed. It inspires me to try new and different things with my designs. Here’s a treat today. Victoria in New Zealand made Ariel’s Wedding quilt.

Victoria writes:

You featured this quilt in today’s Blast from the Past. I found your pattern, Ariel’s Wedding Quilt, before I found your blog, and now I read your blog every day. I made my version of your quilt in 2018 – photo attached. It was one of my very first attempts at free motion quilting, on my domestic machine. I have improved a lot since then and now have a Gammill longarm. I inherited some money from my father and thought of your story about buying your longarm with an inheritance and followed suit!

Thank you for your blog and your patterns.

Victoria, it’s beautiful. I love the bright colors against the dark background. I never think to use black as the background, but seeing yours is inspiring me to give it a try.

If you don’t remember our original version, here it is…

Ariel is my niece, and this was the quilt I made for her wedding.

Ariel isn’t fancy, so this design was perfect for her. At the time, she had a farmhouse-type theme going on, and this was a good complement to it. It was fun to make and is VERY beginner-friendly. If you have someone in your family who wants to make their first quilt, this would be perfect. This would also make a great team colors quilt. Our school colors are red, white, and black. This would look great with the black background, and use red and white scraps for the pieced segments.

Occasionally, Ariel will post pictures of her kids at her home. I’ll see a little peek of the quilt. It makes my heart happy to see the quilt getting used. Family and friends, if you are reading this and I gifted you a quilt, use it. If it wears out, I’ll happily make you another…and if I haven’t made you one yet, ask.

Great work, Victoria. Congrats on getting a longarm!!

  1. I love the look of the black with the jewel tones. Beautiful!
I also love the light background. Will have to give it some thought as I’ll be making a wedding quilt in a few months.
    Love and prayers
