Made by YOU!!

I got an email from Becky. She just recently found the blog. Becky writes:

I just discovered your page, because I was inspired to make a quilt from a pattern I saw in June 2015 American Patchwork Quilting magazine. I had saved the pattern and after going to the July 4th parade, I decided I was going to make a quilt to celebrate 250 years of our country’s independence. I’m sooo tickled at the way it has turned out.

I usually make baby quilts and lap quilts, but my husband and I need a new quilt for our RV bed. I’ve been sewing since Christmas 2013, but this is by far the most intricate pattern I’ve ever tried. I just wanted to say thank you to you and Kelli Hanken for the “Stars and Scraps Forever” pattern. Now, off to the long-armer.

This is our Stars and Stripes Forever quilt. It was published in this issue of American Patchwork and Quilting, June 2015.

This is one of those quilts that I designed, Kelli made the top, and I finished it.

You can’t tell from the photo, but many of the fabrics in the quilt were aged. I almost didn’t submit it to the magazine because I didn’t know if they would want a quilt that was “dated”. So…I just used a sheet for the backing!! Then last minute decided to send it in for consideration. They took it!!

It’s so fun to go down memory lane with quilts we had published. I love seeing the versions others make and how they were inspired. Thanks so much for sending the picture and note to me, Becky…and welcome to the blog.

    I made one too!
    Just finished the binding yesterday.

I’ll send a picture of it hanging in our quilt show in Fredericksburg Tx on September 4&5.

  2. Becky did a beautiful job. I’ve seen several of Jo’s quilt patterns in emails from American Patchwork & Quilting weekly update newsletter. Thanks for showing Becky’s quilt.

  3. Becky, your version of Jo’s pattern is glorious. The colors are spectacular, wish I had the incentive to make this quilt. WELL DONE and thank you Jo for showing the quilt on your blog.

  4. The quilt is gorgeous! I love patriotic inspired quilts. In fact when I saw the picture from the magazine I am very sure I had that magazine way back then and wanted to make this quilt. This was long before I was aware of who you are. Somehow the magazine and pattern was lost in my many moves.

  5. I just love that quilt! I tore the pattern out of the magazine a long time ago…maybe this is my sign to start making it!
