Welcome to a regular feature here on the blog called “Made by You!” We have free patterns listed on the right sidebar of the blog, we have a book Country Girl Modern, we have patterns in our online shop and we have patterns often featured in magazines. We have so many of you taking those patterns and making them in your own way and your own style. The blog series features YOUR quilts made with our designs. We love the series as there is no higher compliment to a designer than to know you like our design well enough to spend your time and money to make it.
I recently got an email from Amy. She writes:
“Hi Jo
I wanted to send along a picture of my Moment of Zen quilt. When I saw your quilt in the magazine I just knew I had to make it for a friend’s wedding gift. I had been looking at the Cider fabric for a while and just knew I had to use that too. You and Kelli did a great job on this pattern. I used 42 fat quarters to make mine a 6×7 layout. It will hopefully find a home on the back of their couch and be a cuddle quilt. I will be blogging about it after I deliver it.
Also, I have included a selfie I took (not good at them) wearing my new shirt from Kalissa. I can’t find an email address for her anywhere on her blog. Could you please pass it along? And please tell Carver, thank you for the wonderful note.”
Oh, how FUN…both the quilt and the shirt. Amy blogs HERE. Please go over and check her out. I had not been to Amy’s blog before and found it very nice…dogs, quilts, house fixing up. All of those things are exactly what I love reading about.
About the quilt. This was out Moment of Zen quilt. (No we didn’t name the quilt but honestly, we stink at quilt names so likely couldn’t have come up with anything better.) It was featured in this issue of American Patchwork and Quilting…
Here is our version.
Both Amy’s and our version were made with the fabric line Cider. This is a quilt that I have kept. I keep very few quilts that were made with a fabric line but this one…I love.
It was a really fun quilt to make.
Now about the shirts…Kalissa asked me to tell you three things.
1. All V NECKS (they sold out in less than an hour during the last restock) are restocked including Sew Happy, Sew Happy Vneck and Blessed are the Piecemakers!

3. I have several of my SEASONAL shirts on sale – this includes Sunshine State of Mind, Bloom Where you’re Planted, Take a Hike, Antique Geek and Gone Junkin to make room for FALL SHIRTS and sweatshirts! These are all only $20 and may not be coming back again! They would make an excellent Christmas gift!
You can order shirts through THIS LINK to Kalissa’s Etsy shop.
Kalissa and I both had such fun reading through comments when she last did a giveaway so she wants to do another one. To be entered to win a shirt leave a comment here on the blog giving a logo idea or favorite color idea for a fall shirt for her to design.
Thanks so much to Amy for sharing her quilt and her shirt with us. How fun!! I look forward to reading all of your comments. We’ll pick a winner next week. I’m guessing we’ll do that on the fourth of August but I who knows. We had things planned for this past Wednesday but Carver ended up in the ER with pneumonia. I know better than to commit to much of anything!!
Love my Kalisa v neck tshirt. Great quality.
Love the saying my friend has on her sewing room.
ME TIME, makes me a BETTER ME.
Looking forward to my next order
Cranberry would be great fall t-shirt color!
This expresses the story of my quilting life: Sew Forward, Fall Behind
I tried 4 times, using 2 different credit cards, to order 2 t shirts and received an error message each time. I do not have an Etsy account so I must not be able to order. The shirts are wonderful. :(
I’m so sorry to hear this Cyndi! I have no control over the Etsy payment system – please send me an email – thepinkshoelaces@gmail.com – you can either PayPal or Venmo me, let’s get you those shirts! – Kalissa
Thank you for your reply. Its a new day and for whatever reason I was able to order 2 t shirts today. YEAH! One shirt is a gift and the recipient will love it. Thank yu.
Cyndi – Did you try a different browser? There are a couple of sites that I just can’t get past my ‘security’ for some reason. Instead of trying to change that, I just go to something other than the one I usually use, bring up the site and it works!
Your wonderful t shirts are so popular, you must of had lots of folks ordering yesterday. It’s a new day and I was able to order my shirts. YEAH! One of the shirts is a gift and I know the recipient will love it!!
Thanks!
I wounded what happened. I don’t have an Etsy account. I went through PayPal maybe. I can not remember.
Give thanks with a grateful heart.
A rust color or pumpkin color would be great autumn colors. I would like to see Quilting Queen on one of the shirts, maybe with a crown and scepter.
I’m not a huge fan of fall colors, but a deep green or a dusty purple (not bright) would be lovely.
I’ve been wondering if Kalissa would be interested in doing shirts for a small group? There are just 4 of us, but if you think they’d sell you could make as many as you want. I was thinking something like “#Sewing Squad” with some sort of related artwork.
Hope Carver recovers quickly.
Favorite fall color for a shirt
PUMPKIN
Sew Crazy, Pieceful Life Happening Here or ItSewMe.
Rust or Pumpkin would be great. I can’t think of any autumn phrases at the moment. Well I do like ” I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers ” from Anne of Green Gables.
A muted pumpkin spice color would be good or a warm gold.
Quilters only mend fences! A fence with a quilt over it
Oh, Scrap! Scrappy quilt.
I just ordered the “take a hike” for my son. Looking forward to seeing the quality of the tees.
A dark forest green, or burnt orange Something with a hiking or outdoor theme.
Heathered shirts in rust, burgundy, forest green, mustard, and a deep dusty purple color would be great for fall,(and the take a hike style could be redone in those shades!)
“Spicy Pumpkin”. Kalissa has lots of fun shirts:)
I just love the shirt I ordered – the quality is amazing and the shirt is so soft!! Forest green “The mountains are calling” on the front and “I must go” on the back. Teal “Make each day your masterpiece”.
Sew Spicy…coffee cup with a sewing machine on it. In a muted pumpkin color maybe?
Love the quilts. Praying Carved is better soon.
Love and prayers
So enjoy reading about everything you write, Jo…first thing with coffee after logging my weight, lol! Love Kalissa’s t-shirts!
“leaf a masterpiece” with a collage of leaves on a rust colored shirt,
Lots of pink shades.
“If momma ain’t’ happy ain’t nobody happy, if papa ain’t happy don’t nobody care”
. I wore mine for years and years and sadly it died.
I love Blessed are the Piecemakers and I think for fall a deep green or rust would sell well.
How about a heathered shirt with Hey, punkin’ ?
After all everyone’s been thru in the last year or so, I see this. A plum colored shirt with a fruit basket or cornucopia and the words “So Thankful”. I’m just glad to be here.
How about “And sew it is….”. I love my piecemaker shirt!!!
Love my ‘Piecemaker’ Shirt. ‘Sunshine’ shirt was a gift.
Also, I would love to see the hiking t-shirt in a short sleeve if that would be possible. Daughter and Granddaughter love to hike. Would really like the hiking t-shirt in teal or rust color.
I read thru the comments and love the ideas, maybe you could add ‘Summertime Sunshine’ in a bright sunshine yellow.
MAPLE LEAF RAG
A long-ago quilting friend always said, “The Lord loves a cheerful ripper!” (If that’s not too long a sentence.) Or perhaps it could be shortened to “Cheerful ripper”. With a sketch of a seam ripper, of course.
Finished is better than perfect! We need to remind ourselves that often the recipient can not see our mistakes and love the handmake gifts. A quilters we are hardest on ourselves.
Heather colored shirts are very nice!
I ordered the Farmer T-Shirt. I wore it 2 or 3 times and washed it once. The print is already wearing off. I hope it was just that T-Shirt.
Cranberry or Rust would be awesome fall colors for a shirt.
A quilt is hug made with fabric & love.
Rust and the bright yellow/ gold of the birch leaves are 2 of my favorites.. I enjoy seeing the shirts so far I haven’t been able to squeeze out the money for one. I will though.
I can’t think of a color or logo at the moment, but I would like to request more v-neck option, as I can’t wear regular t-shirts. I don’t have one of your shirts yet, but soon! Carver is in my prayers.
Even though I quilt, I also love to knit (and crochet). Do you think you could have a shirt with a theme connected to those crafts? I like the mustard or rust colors for fall.
Even though I quilt, I love to knit (and crochet). Do you think you could offer a shirt with a design theme based on those crafts? I like mustard or rust for fall colors.
I love my Piecemaker shirt as well. A dusty plum would be a perfect color for fall. Look forward to seeing your new collection.
How about “Sew With Jo” with a picture of a sewing machine or “Spur one another on toward love and good deeds” with the picture of 2 friends working on UFOs together. I think either one would help motivate me to get sewing.
