This is my shelf in the sewing room. Â It’s a mess.
I really want to clean it up. Â IÂ know that there are several projects on the shelf that I will likely never get to.
I’ve tried to decide what to do with them. Â I could sell them but..ah. Â I don’t like that idea. Â I would rather try to help someone out.
Is there a blog reader on a fixed income that has the time or inclination to help someone else?
This is what I am proposing:
I am looking for someone or several people who like to sew and who want to help others who might not have the means to help others.
I will send them a project.
They will sew it and send it back to me. Â I can help with postage money if needed.
I’ll machine quilt it and together we’ll donate to a charitable organization. Â If the maker wants to bind it, I’m willing to send it back to them and they can choose the organization that they want to donate it to.
Right now I think I have about four projects. Â The person doesn’t get to choose the project. Â It will just be random luck on what project gets sent. Â The person can indicate their quilting talent level so that a hard project doesn’t get sent to a beginner but that’s about the best I can do.
I know there are many of you out there that would be willing to volunteer for sewing a project but at this point I am asking for only volunteers who are on an income level that doesn’t allow them to otherwise be a part of the charity quilting program I’ve been working on.
Any volunteer will be completely anonymous. Â I will not announce who was volunteered on the blog. Â I will simply say that a charity project came in just like any other charity quilt top that comes in.
It would be a great help to me and a great help to get more charity quilts out to others.
I told you earlier this week that Linda, a blog reader had two families in her area loose everything to a recent fires. Â It turns out there are six children that need quilts. Â It would be so much better if the projects on my shelf were sewn and together for these six children…or for others in need.

I just love your blog and ideas. I have been cleaning out my crazy messy stash. Just took a box of pillowcase kids, quilt kits, tops and some fabric to the guild for the charity group. Still need to dig thru and sort out more. We have a huge guild and give out kits and such during out meetings and have one day a month just to process “stuff”.
Wish I lived closer to Iowa. Now I need to see about getting those Iowa quilt retreat tops quilted. Ana S. Indiana
I love this idea. Time is my shortage more than funds, so not for me. But I think this is a lovely way to allow others to participate in sharing their talents with those in need.
If Linda needs more quilts for kids Now and you could use yours later, I have some throw size I could send. I have made store samples for years and it’s time to trim the stack!
What an awesome idea!!!! I’ve had the same experience with quilty friends who have had precuts on their shelves and have donated them for such but your idea is even better!!!!
I would love to help you. I am not an expert quilter but have done lots of paper piecing. I will give any project you send my best shot. I also will do binding . I don’t mind doing that job. I don’t know if you will sen to Canada but you can let me know. Also remember to take time for yourself (you little energizer bunny)
