I just finished up a project…It’s a Layer Cake Lemonade quilt. Â The gals over at Fat Quarter Shop asked if we wanted to test out a pattern for them. Â We jumped at the chance and were especially excited to see that the pattern was wonderfully easy.
If you are a grandma with a grand daughter(or grand son) who is coming for holiday vacation and you want a project to work on together, this is perfect. Â Your little quilter is sure to be successful.
We made ours using a layer cake of Moda’s S’more Love by Eric and Julie Comstock.  The fabric is super cute and has a camping theme…perfect for a boy.  I always think it’s hard to find boy fabric but this one is perfect-0wls-cars-fish- in wonderful colors….perfect for a boy.
I did some fun boxes in the quilting design. Â It’s one of my favorites and perfect for the quilt.
I had some flannel in my stash and it worked perfectly for a backing and for the binding, Hubby said orange and I happen to have enough from a previous project so that was perfect too. Â Best of all…I started this quilt at 10 in the morning…I had it sewn, quilted and bound by 3 the same afternoon. Â How’s that for fast but still cute??
I’ve included a link to the video so you can see just how easy it is.
I also am including a link to the pattern.
Fat Quarter Shop contacted a few other bloggers and they made the quilt too only they are using different fabrics. Â Take some time and hop around to some of these blogs so you can see the same design made up in a variety of different layer cakes. Â Here’s a link to the Jolly Jabber, Fat Quarter Shop’s blog, where you can find links to all the other blogs who are playing along.
Even more fun, Fat Quarter Shop is offering their layer cakes at 20% off all week.
Grab a layer cake and start sewing. Â You have plenty of time to have this finished before Christmas!
Hi, I see that you made a quilt some time ago of Moda “Swanky”
Do you know where I may get ahold of some of this fabric…. just need to finish a quilt!
Been searnching the net. Thank you, Belinda
Cute as can be!
What a great Christmas idea for my 9-year-old grand-daughter! I gave her my little Janome last year so she could sew with her mother. It looks like this pattern would be very forgiving with a less than accurate seam allowance. I’ll take my travel machine with me when we go for Christmas and maybe we can finish it while I’m there. What fun!
Thanks for the pattern idea. I am going to teach a quilting class at our local Christian school in January. This is great for teaching the basics and not having to worry about seams matching on a first project. And it is a cute modern look. Love your blog. I check in on you and Bonnie Hunter a couple times a day!!
Cute! Thanks for sharing a great pattern.
