Labor Day Visitors

On Labor Day, Kelli and the kids came over for a visit. Rick made lasagna for us, along with his chocolate brownies (recipe coming soon). Kelli and I were back to working on Eli’s quilt. I had gotten it this far…

Kelli decided she wanted a border and more squares. Here it is with a yellow inner border. Eli was testing it out to see if it was big enough. HA!!

It was to the point that it really was a one-person job. Kelli added the borders while I worked on making the binding for a different quilt.

Eli was in charge of the camera and taking pictures. We got another set of interesting ones.

Rick taking care of the lawn…

The pool table…

…and Rosie.

Then he wanted a picture of him and Rosie.

Georgia ended up being sick. She lay on the couch the entire time…and since the television was on, Emmett spent quite a bit of time watching.

It turns out when I was cleaning the sewing room earlier in the week, I found more four-patch pieces that would work for Eli’s quilt, so outer borders took no time.

So here is Eli’s quilt top all together.

We didn’t get the backing put together, but Kelli did measure for one. This quilt is 85″ x 96″. I had a HUGE laugh over that. She started out wanting to make a single-sized quilt…think 72″ x 80″. Ha! Kelli and I just can’t make anything little.

It was a fun day with the kids even though Georgia didn’t feel well. She stayed home the next day too…Hopefully she’ll be on the mend soon.

  1. Wow! What an awesome quilt and the yellow border and 4patch borders just add so much ! Great job!
My husband is home from his back surgery yesterday, some spinal fusion and cleaned out arthritis. So I’m playing nurse for a while and praying this will alleviate his pain.
Tell Eli I enjoyed seeing his pictures!

  2. Love Eli’s quilt ! He will be able to use it a long time ! Awesome job you two ! I admire all your quilts ! Have a good week!

  3. Just about queen-size! My fav twin size is 68″x86″. Easy to remember, and nicely covers a twin bed (minus going over the pillow).

  4. Another good day with family! Love that quilt and all those little squares! Wow!
I can see why Eli loves that quilt – nothing too small for him.
    Hope Georgia feels better soon.
    Love and prayers

  5. The quilt looks beautiful. It must be such fun for you and Kelli to quilt together. My own daughter doesn’t sew and my mother died quite young so I have never been able to experience that particular pleasure myself. I will just have to continue living vicariously through you and your daughter! My feed recently encouraged me to look at an older post showing Kelli’s cross stitch wips. It was from 2025. If she has a chance please encourage her to give us a 2026 WIP parade. Her stitching is so lovely and since you have not been having as much time to stitch that might be a good subject for one of your Friday cross stitch updates (which I also enjoy very much).

  6. Kelli’s T shirt is hilarious! Yes, yes she is a delight! :)
Love the Deere quilt and why bother making a small quilt? A small boy should have a quilt that doubles as a tent. That goes for small girls too!

  7. I would say Eli has an awfully good eye for his photography. It is especially good for someone so young.
Just a comment on your concern about a slump for stitching — think about all the great things you have added to LIFE !!!! there has been such an expansion to your being happy happy happy !!! Do not rain on your own parade.
