Jumping on the Bandwagon

I need another project like I need another hole in the head. Seriously. I’ve been working on UFOs and trying to have fewer projects so what am I thinking??

I know what I’m thinking. I love this quilt!! I’m thinking I WANT TO MAKE IT!! So…I am.

It all started as I was adding a picture to my Instagram account. This came up… This is from the gal from Sew Tattered. She has a floss tube channel too. I love her stuff…really love her stuff. She stitches and makes things I love. See that quilt? I love it.

The note said Tiny Nine-Patch Challenge quilt. Hmm. This sounded like a sew along. Hmm. I wonder if it’s free. Yep. I’m a cheapskate and might participate if it was free but if I had to buy a kit and use someone else’s selection of fabric, I might not join in. Hmm.

It said in this post that reproquiltlover on Instagram was hosting…Oh, be still my heart. Look at that quilt! I love it!!

YAHOO!! It was free. Yes. I would be starting this. I likely won’t be a formal quilt alonger. I tend to go a little rouge. I read somewhere that someone mentioned making a certain number of blocks each week. That just not me. I might make 20 one week and zero the next depending on life AND I don’t want to jump in, do it for six weeks then on the seventh week when I don’t have time, to just quit. That’s a bad plan so I’m going to try to have 480 or so tiny blocks made by December 1st.

Options are there to make the quilt however you like. The host of the project is making hers so the block FINISH at 1 1/2″. That makes the square only 1/2″ by 1/2″. As much as like that idea, I don’t want to sew them that tiny. Luckily there are other options. I’m going with the option to make the block 2 1/4″ finished so the square will be 3/4″ finished. Whew. Much better.

I actually chose that option because it would be easy for me to grab a 2 1/2″ strip from my strip bucket and cut it in half for a 1 1/4″ strip which is what I need to make the blocks.

The host has also shown some other inspiration via her Instagram account…You could participate and just make something small.

Or you could do a two-color quilt.

Me, I’ll be going scrappy…a surprise to no one!!

It isn’t supposed to start until the 15th but I made a few test blocks and I also cut a bunch of strips.

I’m excited about this…I can’t wait to really get going on this.

If you are interested you can find more info on reproquiltlover’s Instagram account.

Let the sewing begin!! Oops. I am supposed to wait until the 15th.

  1. That will be a very cute quilt. I’m sure if I were to make those small blocks, I’d end up with a doll quilt! I don’t make good little blocks. Have fun and keep us updated to your progress!!

  2. Hi all, if I don’t have any fat quarters, can I use some old sheets I have. a few are polyester blend, and some are cottons. Any advice is appreciated.

  3. Just FYI. I saw you got FB comments on gibberish. I don’t do FB so can’t comment there. When it was first posted, I got gibberish on new iPad and new iPhone. However, I could read it on my old old iPad. I tried to make a comment from old old iPad, but your server thought I was a robot lol. At least I could read it though. Today, I can read and make this comment on new iPhone, but still gibberish on new iPad.
I signed up for sew along. Sounds like fun! Thanks for posting.

  4. I’ve seen this on Instagram and looks so cute. Sometime before Christmas Darlene D’eon started s nine patch a day and I’ve been doing that so I guess I’ll pads this one up! I know ill see yours and like it but I need to use a little self control!

  5. Oh my gosh! I think those are too tiny for me! I’m making one with 1” finished squares, and they are a struggle. But, I LOVE the idea! Can’t wait to see the progress on yours.

  6. I am in with the Mini Quilt! I joined and received my pattern. It will be scrappy also! I will gather strips and scraps tomorrow so I can use as leaders/enders for the quilt I have four more blocks to make! It will help me get a head start! I am also going a tad larger like you are Jo. I will play around and see what size I like. I want a quilt!

  7. Well it is so funny – I have just joined a local quilt group (anything goes, started as quilting but they do knitting, crochet and embroidery too) and I took along my little hand crank – few electricity points – and some one and a half inch scrappy squares. I have a lot of scrappy squares – and started doing 9 patches. I figured it would be easier whilst chatting! I managed two and almost finished a third. Now seeing this quilt you’ve given me something to play with! Cheers Jo!

  8. I am joining this too. I follow both of those individuals and was planning to do the quilt too. I was excited to see that you were going to do this. I knew it was your type of quilt. I had a UFO I had purchased at Goodwill that was a start on a 9 patch so I am going to work on that. It gave me a good reason to pull it out and get going on it.

I have been cutting strips, squares, and strings from my HUGE tote of blue fabrics. I have a HUGE amount of 1.5’ squares that I’ve been cutting for YEARS. I’ve made several Bonnie Hunter quilts using those squares. Looks like I’ll be doing another quilt with 1.5” squares. I don’t know what it is, but I LOVE working with the SMALL stuff, totally scrappy. WooHoo!! So happy you posted this!!

  10. I am so glad you are doing this. I follow Repro Quilt Lover on IG and just can’t decide on the size I want to make. I’ve made many 3″ finished 9-patches and enjoyed it but I’m thinking maybe trying a little smaller now. This should be fun! The only problem is that there are so many quilt alongs starting now and I can’t possibly join them all.
