Hello…It’s a Moda Bake Day!  I am so excited.  I always get lots of new visitors on Moda Bake Shop days…I feel like I should take a moment to introduce myself for those of you who are new here.  I’m Jo and I live here at the Junction.  I love to cook, sew and garden.  If you were here in person, on a tour, I’d show you the latest quilt I finished.  I’d offer you a piece of Blueberry Sour Cream Pie.  I’d give you a taste of fresh kale from my garden and tell you the latest adventures of my beagle Gracie….I love blogging and add a post almost every day, but you’re here to see the quilt…so on with the quilt.

Here’s my latest project 1934 Nine Patch.  It is made with Moda’s fabric line Circa 1934 which is scheduled to be in stores next month.  I love the line…the colors are great…very creamy and rich.

1934NinePatch

I have often heard people make comments about “not liking the solid colors in a fabric line”.  I decided to embrace the solid colors in the fabric line and design the quilt around those solid colors.  This particular fabric line has the solid red, gold, cream and green.  I didn’t use the green but if you are a “green gal”, you could easily use the green for one of the colors instead.

The quilt is made up of two different nine patch blocks, the gold/cream and the red with the printed fabric.  It’s an easy quilt to make if you are new to quilting and nine patch blocks are one of the easiest blocks there are to make.  If you are an “old hand” at quilting, this would be a quick project you.

The quilt uses a jelly roll precut for the red nine patch blocks giving each block a little dose of color.

I am totally in love with the backing fabric….

I just used a simple quilting.  I would have loved to do straight line quilting but my machine doesn’t do that the best and I am not patient enough to do it on my regular machine.

Gracie was feeling a little sad when I snapped this picture…
I love how those black blocks POP!

I picked a black polka dot for the binding….making those black blocks POP even more.

To see more pictures and to read the directions, head on over to Moda Bake Shop.  Leave a comment there and let me know what you think.

Here’s some more fun news…Kimberly from the Fat Quarter Shop is offering a $25 gift certificate to one of my readers.

We don’t want to make you jump through a bunch of hoops to be entered.  We both value your time.  You don’t have to like Jo’s Country Junction or Fat Quarter Shop on Facebook.  You don’t have to subscribe to Jo’s Country Junction or to the “Jolly Jabber” (Fat Quarter Shop’s blog)….but you sure can, we both would love to have more company.

Just leave a comment here…tell us what you’d love to use the gift certificate on…what fabric, notions, or patterns are you dreaming about ordering from the Fat Quarter Shop?  I think I would like to some of the Dottie Moda fabric…who can resist polka dots?!?!?   I’ll pick a winner on Friday…THIS Giveaway is CLOSED.  A winner has been selected.

  1. Very nice quilt! I love the colors! I also LOVE FQS and would get something from my wishlist which is pretty long…..Amelia, Etchings, Curio….it would be tough to decide but I probably won’t have to! Thanks for the chance though!

  2. Love the polka dot binding! (I’m a bit partial to polka dots ;)

I would love to stock up on some Michael Miller…loving some of their new stuff!

  3. Lesley Carruthers

I love your quilt and tutorial! My choice for a gift certtficate is always about the fabric…more is never enough!
    Cheers!

  4. you have a great blog I am so glad I have found it, I would use the gift certificate for some of the new Christmas fabrics

  5. Christelle Taquet

Hum, with a gift certificate, I could do the same quilt because I love it or I could do it with Hometown to see how it turn… anyways it would be fabrics!

  6. I am anxiously waiting for the yardage for Terrain to show up at the Fat Quarter Shop. Thanks for the opportunity to win!=)

  7. Congratulations on another great design! Great use of solids from the jelly roll. Gosh! Those Moda polka dots are wonderful. As hot as it is, I think I’d love of the new Kansas Troubles flannel. Have a great day! Give Gracie a hug!

  8. I just finished a 9 patch quilt…love 9 patches!
I love most things at FQS but I would probably try to buy last year’s Kate Spain mystery that I have wanted for over a year!

  9. Susan S Watauga, TX

I love this quilt – thank you for lovely use of 9 patch squares. I’m dreaming of Christmas fabric- flurry, jovial, countdown to Christmas and any with winter birds…. I have a 4 yr old grandaughter, a new granddaughter coming in October (both in Georgia) First I want to make an Advent calendar for Bailey and one for my classroom, a Christmas tree wall hanging for my mother (nursing home) and a Christmas blanket for the new baby. If I won I’d probably use the certificate to make the Advent calendars.

  10. Hum.. it’s been so long since I purchased fabric w/o a specified project in mind I’m not sure what I’d get. Either some neutrals with movement, reds to supplement my stash, or fabric for a baby quilt I recently designed and need to test.

  11. I just found your blog and I am love’n it!
If I were to win I would like to get some Happy Mochi Yum Yum, it is so bricht and colorful I am just drawn to it.
Thanks for taking your time to have the giveaway.

  12. I would love to get some charm packs. I have a go cutter for shapes but I love being able to use the precuts to save on time and on my hands, so I can start making some charity quilts when I feel better.

  13. Oh my! The choices are endless! I am so in love with so many fabrics! But…I am thinking it would be something from Michael Miller, Kate Spain, or Riley Blake!

Gorgeous quilt and pooch! I, too, have a pup named Gracie, except she is a Rhodesian Ridgeback! :)
Thanks so much for the giveaway!

  14. Oh Gracie is beautiful! My beagle growing up was Bugle and she would have loved your quilts too. I love not having to post all over the net for a chance to win money to spend on fabric I NEED some of that backing fabric too

  15. I love your quilt! I am a sucker for “vintage” quilts and prints. I’m also REALLY loving your crumb quilt, by the way! How nice that you are doing a give-away. I would be using it to buy some Moda Bella… I’m running out of background fabric. Of course, a new fat quarter bundle always gets me drooling…
    Thanks,
    Kim

  16. If I were lucky enough to win, I would use the gift certificate for a chunk of border or backing fabric. I have got to get some UFOs done!

  17. Love your new quilt! I’m a frequent reader of your blog and enjoy reading about all of your projects (plus great recipes). If I won it would be hard to narrow down what to get as Fat Quarter shop has everything! It’s one of my favorite online stores. Maybe splurge and put it towards a fat quarter bundle of the new Christmas lines or Ruby, anything French General or Kate Spain. Thanks for the chance t win!

  18. I would love a fat quarter bundle of some fun new fabric. Actually, what I really need is more hours in my day…..does fat quarter shop sell those? :)

  19. As a new quilter this year, I would be thrilled to receive the gift certificate to begin building a fabric stash! The backing fabric used on your 9 patch is eye candy to me so I would definitely be investing in it! All the best from hot and humid Ontario, Canada!

  20. Fabric of course: I just might spend my $25 on Heirloom, or if in stock again plaid Modern Meadow, or a layer cake/charms for Birdie Stitches blocks.

  21. I am loving the new Cabbage and Roses Northcote Range but that was before I saw this quilt now I think I’d to make this nine patch with the Circa 1934 fabric! Love It!

  22. I would definitely order the dots line. I have been thinking of making a circle quilt with all dot fabrics and have been stashing many sizes and colors. So far no duplicates!

  23. This is my first visit to your blog….and i like it here! Your quilt is absolutely gorgeous. I especially like the black and LOVE the black dot binding! I’d love to be entered. I’d buy some Terrain by Kate Spain! (And I just signed up to follow…because you didn’t make me! I’d love to! :) )

  24. I’m wanting that 1934 line, now that I have seen it….and I’m headed over to the Bake Shop to check out your pattern! Love it! Thanks for the chance to win!

  25. Hi Jo! Good to see you again on Moda Bakeshop…I am enjoying following you now that I know you. Fat Quarter shop? Fabric of course…I think I would choose fabric outside my comfort zone just for fun…love to get some aqua and red…yum!

  26. I would use the certificate towards a block of the month set that I fell in love with the other night…the Vintage Kansas City Star BOM quilt. I would dearly love to make this quilt for Mom, in memory of my father (he died in January.) I love reading your blog; it reminds me of when I was growing up in Michigan. :-)

  27. Jo, I love your 9 patch quilt, especially since it has “vintage” looking fabrics, including the backing! I just love anything that looks “vintage” whether it’s really vintage or new! I’d use the $25 to buy me a couple of soft thimbles (as opposed to those metal ones), or those “vintage” looking fabrics! How fun!

  28. I’m already a follower of FQS/Jolly Jabber and am so glad I came across your blog. Of course, after looking into Gracie’s sweet puppy dog eye, I had to set up my blogger to follow you too. :-) As for what to get from FQS, fabric, of course. I’m saving up and counting the days for Late Bloomers to come out. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking of cooler weather but I find those prints just so welcoming. Thanks for the giveaway! I look forward to your updates.

  29. At the Fat Quarter Shop, I would buy a fat quarter bundle. Or maybe a jelly roll. I really enjoy scrap quilts, so the more different fabrics I can gather, the better.

  30. I love your blog…I have read it for awhile now. I also love the Fat Quarter Shop….I have ordered from them before. I love how I get my purchase so fast in the mail. I go to thier page everyday just to see what is new. I would buy more fabric…I love scrap quilts and also working on a grandmothers flower garden that I need more fabric for. Thank you and the Fat Quarter Shop for this giveaway.

  31. There are so many it would be hard to choose. I would change my mind many times before I actually make that final decision. Happy quilting!

  32. I have a pattern that I have been wanting to do. It is pastel pinwheel quilt on a soft white background. All of the pinwheels are dots and placed with the light pinwheels at the top and color graduated with the darker pastels on the bottom. It is so pretty and would make an excellent baby gift for a friend who is due in December!

  33. Maryellen McAuliffe

I want a jelly roll of Moda’s Dogwood Trail! I want to make a quilt for my mom, and she would love that fabric. Love this design, and the solids mixed with prints. Great plan for this frabric collection, and can translate easily to other collections. Thanks.

  34. Wonderful Bake Shop design, Jo! Congrats on another winner. I love the colors in this line and would like some of my own. A gift certificate would be a lovely way to start :)

  35. Kathy Carpenter

I can’t tell which I love and want more – the fabric or the sweet puppy! I would love to use the gift certificate on this fabric line; it’s simply gorgeous!
