Instant Pot: Beef Stroganoff

I made up another recipe for the Instant Pot.  I keep experimenting more and more and find myself using the  Instant Pot more and more.  Each success builds my confidence.  To be honest, it’s getting to the point that I use the  Instant Pot way more than I use my stove top.  That make clean up easy too as there are fewer pots and pans.

I’ve told you before that I’m a “fly by the seat of my pants cook”.  It’s so true.  On this day my littlest baby was here at childcare.  He’s 10 months old and is starting to eat table food.  I still have to use the immersion blender to chop it up but he’s doing good with things that are pureed so I thought noodles would be a good option.  I had hamburger and sausage on hand….and so it went.  I ended up coming up with a Beef Stroganoff that tastes a lot like hamburger helper.  The kids loved it.

The funny thing is that I tossed the in the ingredients making it up as I went…then it was really good and I was running to find paper to quick write down the recipe so I could share it…The back of an envelop was the first thing that I found…so here’s the recipe on the back of an envelope….Instant-pot-beef-stroganoff-2

Seriously, I’ll give a real recipe.

In the Instant pot using the saute feature
Brown:
1 pound hamburger and a 1/2 pound sausage –  this could easily be cut back to one pound total.  Hubby likes his food meaty.
Add:
1 chopped onion-  Saute.

Add:
12 oz bag noodles I used egg noodles
1 can Cream of Mushroom soup

using the same Cream of Mushroom soup can measure out and add
3 cans water
3/4 cup sour cream
2 Tablespoons beef soup base

garlic powder and pepper to taste

Stir.

Turn off the saute feature.  Put the lid on. Close the valve.  Manual for 5 minutes.

Release pressure.  Stir.  Serve.  Sprinkle with Parmesan Cheese.  Eat.

I so love the  Instant Pot for cooking with the childcare kids.  I don’t  have to “watch a pan on the stove”.  I don’t burn anything.  I can natural release and the food stays warm until it’s time to serve.  It’s so good for life with kids!!  I’ve REALLY contemplated getting a second one.  Next year Black Friday I think I’m going to have to cave to the pressure of having two!!

Anyway..the kids liked this…I did and Karl did too!!

  1. Totally agree with you about the watching a pan on the stove thing! Ive always hated cooking and I think it’s in large part because I hate having to babysit something on the stove. I’ve had the instant pot for a few months now and I really love it. I love that I can set and forget it and get a really delicious meal. Judy at patchwork times just got a mini instant pot In addition to her bigger one and I think I might do that too!!

  2. I won an Instant Pot last summer in the reading program at our library. I’ve been using it some ever since. Today I’ve made the decision to give it to my DIL. I think it is too much messing around. Crockpots are so much easier for me and my schedule. I’m glad it works for you and your situation.

  3. My son gave me mine for Christmas and I am loving it! Still getting a feel for how much time to do certain things when I am not using a recipe. Thanks for sharing your recipe, Jo!
