Here’s what I am working on….Crab Apples….
I had started this project a LONG time ago. Â It was my leader and ender project until I had all the sides and small piecing finished. Â I bought all the fabric to finish it and then it sat…
See I love the quilt but apparently I hate paper piecing more. Â I don’t know why but the thought of paper piecing those trees left me, well, crabby. Â My daughter Kelli is home for a day of sewing and I decided….time to do those crab apples.
So I am crabbily sewing along….paper piecing the crab apples. Â The next time I think I am going to make a quilt with paper piecing PLEASE remind me how much I dislike paper piecing.
P.S. Â Thanks to all you bloggers who are making this quilt. Â Seeing you beautifully sewn quilts has encouraged me to get sewing on mine again.
I only like to paper piece TINY things, if I have to so I am feeling your crabbiness. :)
All that ‘crabbing’ might make your apples sour! keep going it is looking yummy!
Apple crumble,Apple shortcake,Apple sauce,Apple muffins….oh I’m hungry……
LOL! Perhaps it will grow on you!! :)
Nothing to be crabby about! It’s coming out beautifully!! ~karen
Very pretty, you could measure and cut your pieces for the crab apples then sew them together then no paper piecing. ;)
Your crab apple trees are gorgeous!! You know the saying when you have crab apples make apple sauce!!…oh yeah that’s lemons…well you get the idea!
Keep going!! this quilt is going to be stunning!

This is my l/e project too. I’m not to the paper piecing yet but I like doing it so it will go fast. I’m still sewing little squares together and have no idea how many I have. :) Can’t wait to see it.
I think your blocks are fantastic. But I hear you loud and clear on paper piecing. Beautiful results, but a pain to do!
You definitely were crabby!!!!
I soooo feel your crabbiness! I hate paper piecing and I wait long enough for the memory to fade a bit and start something that has “just a little paper piecing” geez, you’d think I’d learn too!
Your project is so cute, I can see why you went for it despite the paper piecing!
I LOL when I read about your hatred of pp!! I definitely have this love-hate relationship with that technique. I love how percise it is – but hate the feel AND sound of the dang paper!!! The quilt is lovely though – glad you took it back out!!!
You can do it! And the end result will be beautiful!
I have done exactly one paper pieced project. It is still not done :) Your pieces and parts are looking terrific anyway!
P.S. Tried to email you regarding the headband giveaway but my email will not go through–so just want to say my belated thank yous for the three different headband parts you sent me so generously! Looking forward to playing with those :)
I am just like you there! I HATE paper piecing! I have enough blocks for two of the crab apple tops made, but no tree trunk parts. :(
I was making one of the quilts for a friend since she is the one who gave me a huge bag of 1.5″ squares. She kind of dared me to make anything so I thought I will show her I will make her something. Well so far the joke is on me. Maybe I will take your lead and work on them today. :)
Great crab apple quilt! Another terrific way to use scraps.
I really like paper piecing but I hate sewing little squares together. So I guess there are systems for everybody and we each get to do them all. And the result is a lot of beautiful quilts like yours.
