Ila Strikes

If you’re a long time blog reader you’ve likely heard me mention Ila.  She’s a sweetie who has been a big blessing in my life.  She’s one of the most thoughtful people I know.  It’s people like her that confirm my belief that I am totally awful at gift giving.

First off…last week Ila sent a wonderful box of Charles and David Pears.  They are so YUMMY!  Ila has sent them a couple years in a row.  In fact, when the box came Kalissa saw it and said, “Ila struck didn’t she!”

That’s why I was really surprised when Ila sent a note that said- Expect a box from me today….Hmmm.  That had me curious!

A short time later Ruby started barking letting me know that someone was here and there he was…the Fed Ex guy.  Hubby was home so he got the box and started opening it.  He knows Ila boxes are good.  What he didn’t know was that this box held a special treat.

So I opened the box….GOODIES!!

Cross stitch books….

loads and loads of scraps.  I so love these.  Ila doesn’t make bonus triangle so she clips off the triangles when making flying geese and such.  She saves those and sends them to me.  I use them for paper piecing.  Much of my Pineapple Crazy blocks were made with Ila fabric.  I am starting to save pieces for Wild and Goosey now.  Some of these are going to be perfect.

I’ve had other people give me Stars Wars fabric.  I have nephews who are one day getting a Star Wars quilt….and fireman fabric.  That’s always welcome here.

Hmm…and then the good the food treats.  Ila is famous for awesome food treats.  See…YUM!Ila-5
Ila knows that truffles are my favorite.  Can  you believe that I used to not like chocolate?  Over the last ten years, I swear I crave it.  Suffice it to say, my craving is being met!

Then towards the bottom of the box there looked like there was a quilt….Hmmm.

Ila-6

Can you believe it?!  Ila made a quilt for me.  It makes me cry just typing it.  How sweet.

Ila-7

I love it.  I told Hubby it’s mine and all mine.  It’s my new TV watching quilt.  I thought about keeping it nice and not using it but I know I hate it when people do that.  I’m going to love the heck out of this one!!

Ila-8

The quilting is fabulous…really fabulous.

Ila-9

…and check out the back.  I love it.  What a great idea to use a big print panel.  It’s wonderful…way wonderful.

Ila-10
Amazing.  I am awestruck.  The quilt is so beautiful.

Ila-11

This was way above and beyond Ila.  I can’t believe she did this for me.

I can’t wait for my next cross stitch session.  You can bet this will be covering my lap.

..can you believe in all my excitement that I forgot to tell you that there was a present for Kalissa too.

Oh Ila.  What do we do with you besides love you??  I can’t thank you enough for adopting us.  Now I’m off to fight Hubby for the truffles.  THANKS ILA…THANKS.

P.S.  I love seeing where the scraps came from that Ila sends me.  Here’s a link to the quilts she made in 2016.  I thought you’d enjoy seeing them as much as I did.

  1. I absolutely love that quilt! Is there a pattern for it, Ila? It wouldn’t be hard to figure out, one wants to give credit appropriately. I have a niece in a performing arts high school and thought that I’d make her a star quilt for graduation, but there are two more ahead of her.

  2. Jo, you deserve a quilt! I love that Ila made one for you. I noticed that Ila made 16 quilts in 2016… does that mean she’s making 17 quilts next year?! Fabulous for both of you to have found such a great friend.

  3. that box is like christmas morning – it goes on and on

The back to your quilt!!!!!! I have that… well actually have three of those panels…. was going to do something wonderful…. special….. creative….. awesome… well have done zip and am thinking a back might be the best thing to do. I just can’t cut up the panel and make it into “something”.

  4. What a gorgeous quilt. Those blocks set on point, especially the border treatment, are just wonderful. Seeing her other 2016 quilts, it’s easy to see she does a lot of great work.

  5. Love, love, love the quilt Ila made for you. Would also love for her to share her pattern!
What a great friend. She knows quilters need to be given quilts too, not just make them to given away.

  6. WOW! Seeing Ruby sitting on the quilt Ila made for you…It’s Ruby’s colors!! Tan, black, white, her brown eyes…even her red collar and tag matches! Sooo special, Ruby will be sooo cute snuggled up next to you when it’s Tv watching time!

The other goodies are wonderful too! Ila struck again!!

  7. What a great idea! I love it that she made that for you, Jo. You deserve something for yourself sometimes. You do so much for others. Hugs & Kisses from Utah!

  8. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Isla’s surprises. Her quilt for you is beautiful – I adore the pattern. I think it’s wonderful that Isla sends ‘kindnesses’; you do so much for others!
