Happy Veteran’s Day!

I have a treat for you. If you’ve been following the blog over the last year, you likely remember that Ray, one of our quilt finishers from Florida, put a call out for patriotic quilt tops. He planned to finish them and donate them during a Veteran’s program they were hosting. Many of you answered Ray’s call and sent tops. He was so happy!! I was so happy. Today he’s sharing pictures of the event. Are you ready for an amazing quilt show?

I’m warning you this is just a photo bomb of the celebration. I don’t know anything about individual quilts and don’t know the makers or pattern names.

Here goes…

The set up looks great. It must have taken a big team to put it together. Hanging quilts is never easy!

Now for close-up pictures of the quilts…

If I counted right…that’s 27 quilts. I don’t think there were more but I’m not sure. What a wonderful accomplishment for Ray and all of you who donated tops. Great work Ray on getting them all finished. Many thanks also to those who donated to the postage fund. It was your money that paid for the batting…and I know many of you sent backing or binding fabric too. Thank you!! It’s just awesome!!

I bet the veterans who got quilts were so honored.

If any of you are community quilt top makers, Ray will be collecting tops again as this is an annual event. He plans to do all this work all over again. What a great guy!! So if you have a patriotic top, just red and white or blue and white is fine too…(he adds thread, quilting motifs, and backing fabric to make them look more patriotic) please send them Ray’s way. If you just like sewing for a cause, this is a good project to support so why not make a patriotic quilt? If you are someone on a tight budget but want to make a top, we can help with that too. I’ll happily send fabric your way to make a quilt top with the understanding you’d donate the top. You can contact Ray at this email address: raylagrange52@gmail.com

He’s so much better at answering emails than I am!! HA!

I’m so happy to be able to share these on Veteran’s Day!! Go out and thank a veteran today…and every day.

Glorious effort and glorious quilts, thanks to Ray and anyone who assisted. Quilts are just gorgeous. Thanks to you for your part Jo.

  3. Wowee! What a fabulous show! And what a special kinda guy Ray is to do this with his community! I didn’t get a RWB quilt made for this go around, but it’s 1st on my list for after the craziness of the holidays. Thanks so much for sharing this with us!

  4. Great group of quilts and the setting was beautiful! So wonderful that veterans are thanked like that. I did thank a veteran today – my son! I also made him a quilt several years ago and for some reason I didn’t get a picture of it.

  5. Many local communities have Quilts of Valor sewing groups that meet to make quilts and then present them at various times of the year. They also would appreciate donations of money, fabric, batting, long arming, quilts/quilt tops and sewing time.
