A post from Kelli–
Back in the day when I was in elementary school, we were learning about Native Americans. Â One of the things that we talked about was that they often gave children names based on their characteristics or things that represented their family. Â Our assignment was to decide on a name that would reflect our personality or family. Â We then had to write a short essay on why we chose that name. Â As usual, I wasn’t able to come up with anything or make a decision (this is a recurring theme) so I went home and asked mom for help.
At this point in my life I had this crazy, weird obsession with sayings and quotes. Â I like to think that I was just ahead of my time as sayings are the “in” thing now, but it was just strange. Â I have notebooks and binders filled with quotes, many of which are quite dumb and the worse part is that I still have them all and just can’t quite get myself to get rid of them. Â Never said I was normal ?!?!?!
Anyways, mom decided that my Native American name should be “Happy Sayings Girl” and I thought it was great. Â Ever since then, I have continued to be quite interested in little saying blocks that have started to become popular.
When Jason and I went to Galena, there was a store that was FILLED with happy little sayings…and they were even quite cheap. Â I decided that I was going to just buy one…then I saw that they had a sale if you bought two…Then I told myself that I was just going to save my money and not buy any…
After I saw the one on the right, I knew I was buying it! Â While I was looking around, Jason found the one on the left and thought it would be a nice addition to the bathroom. Â I found a few others that I liked, but I knew that two was even too many….and we hadn’t been to the popcorn shop yet, so I decided I wouldn’t buy anymore….There were lots that I liked though!
And this one too! Â I have had a few days like this lately–
Next time I go back, I have a strange feeling that a few may just jump in my hands and demand to be taken to my house! Â Being my Indian name is “Happy Sayings Girl”, I need to continue living up to my name!
Thanks for this lovely story – I like when you share about your trips out and what you got up to in days gone by – always a pleasure to read :)
Paint your own! Then you can have as many as you want.
I agree with Linda. With your creativity and crafting ability you can make all you want and be Happy Savings Girl as well.
I’m happy to hear that I wasn’t alone in collecting sayings. I have since stopped saving
them, but sometimes I will write them down and then loss them. Thanks for sharing.
