With extra company around this last week I tried to make a few things ahead of time and put them in the refrigerator for a quick meal. Â This is one of those recipes we had, Ground Beef Grand Style.
I know the photo isn’t the best but I had to beat fingers away to get any picture at all. Â The original recipe came from an Amish cookbook. Â I typically make homemade biscuits for the top but I was rushed for time and we used purchased this time.
This is by no means a healthy meal-too much fat-…but it sure is good and convenient.
1 or 2 cans of refrigerator biscuits
2 pound hamburger
1/2 cup chopped onion
1- 8 oz cream cheese
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup milk
Brown the hamburger and the onion. Â Add the remaining ingredients. Â Bring to boil then put in a 9 x 13 pan. Â If I am going to save this meal for later I just cover it and refrigerate it. Â When I want to prepare the meal I open the biscuits and put on top the hamburger mixture. Â Bake at 375 for 20 minutes or until the biscuits are done. Â The original recipe called for one can of biscuits but my family likes them lots so I put two cans on. Â Brush the biscuits with butter once they are out of the oven.
This can easily be prepared a couple days before it is actually needed…or it can be prepared and cooked the same day. Â I love the versatility. Â We just add a salad and call it supper.
This sounds good. I don’t know if you keep up with the cardiovascular surgeons, but fat isn’t the problem, it is the carbs. They say more people started getting diabetes, getting fatter, and having more heart disease when the country when low fat and high carb. They don’t recommend high fat, but fat isn’t the enemy they tried to make it out to be. :)
I do love reading your blog (which I receive as email)! I can’t wait to try the recipe above.
