A couple of weeks ago, Kayla messaged me and asked if I was up for going to see Wicked. I am always up for seeing any play, and seeing it with Kayla is doubly better. Originally, Kayla and Spencer were going on a double date with her friend Liz and her husband Tony. It turns out that Tony couldn’t go. They bought tickets long ago, and in the meantime, they unexpectedly moved to another state. Tony had a new job and couldn’t go. Liz was available to go. They had two extra tickets because Spencer didn’t want to go if Tony wasn’t going…did I want to go? YES!
Kayla and I asked Kalissa and then Kelli if they wanted to go. Both of them already made plans. So I told Kayla I was happy to go, but if they had two friends that wanted to go, I would happily let them go. It turns out that Molly, Spencer’s cousin, was free, so the four of us went. We all drove separately.
We had to juggle a few things because I can’t walk too far…I appreciated their help with that.

Liz was the ticket holder, so she got us all checked in, and we found our seats.
I quickly snapped a picture of us before the play started. From right to left, it’s me, Liz, Kayla, and Molly.

The play was really good. I knew it would be.
We got to intermission and all of us debated if we should use the restroom. I finally said I was going. I reasoned that I might be leaving for home directly from the theater so it might be smart to go now. The four of us went and got in line.
We finally got to the bathroom door as the bell started ringing, telling us to get back in our seats. The bathroom attendant said we were okay. We had five minutes. Liz and Kayla went back to our seats without using the restroom. Molly and I went. I hurried and went immediately back to the door where our seats were. I made it to the door, and then the lights went out, and the play started. UGH. I didn’t see Molly. I hoped she wasn’t outside the door and waiting for me. UGH.
That’s when I realized…I never saw my seat number. AHH! I knew we had seats 31-35, but I had no idea what row. Oh no…it was dark. I couldn’t see. The play had started….hmm. What do I do?
I decided to just sit on the steps. An usher soon came and asked what was going on. I explained that Liz had the tickets and I had no idea what row we were in. She asked the ticket holder’s name. I told her Liz’s name. About five minutes later, she told me where my seat was and then told me to wait until the number was finished. I did and made it to my seat.
I got there, and Molly wasn’t there. I was sick. I was sure she was somehow somewhere waiting for me. I couldn’t do anything about it at this point, so I tried to relax and enjoy the show.
Once the show was over, we got reconnected with Molly. She ended up stuck in the bathroom. A lady there had a side zipper on her dress, and the zipper was stuck. Molly stayed and tried to help her. (She wasn’t waiting for me. YAHOO!!) Anyway, she ended up missing the door closure and had to sit outside the play for nine minutes. When she got in, she didn’t know our row number. She had been to many plays in the past, so she just sat in an open seat way in the back.
Oh my! It was an unusual experience. We all jokingly said, “What did we learn from all this?” I laughed and said, “Don’t wear a side zipper dress to a play!!”
We ended up going out to eat after the play. It was 5:15 pm, and when I realized the time. I had a three-hour drive home. Oh my. I took off. Kayla said they stayed and visited longer.
It was a great play. I liked it much better than the movie, so if you get a chance…GO!! Just know your row number!! HA!

How fun that had to be, but a lesson was learned and now if I ever go to a play I’ll be sure to know where I am to sit. haha. I like the way you are always willing to go to a function with one of your kids. You are so smart to always do it.
I had that same print blouse on today that Molly is wearing. Mine had long sleeves. Keep your own tickets!
I love live theatre too, especially professional but even community, even fifth graders doing Shakespeare. I’m up for that!
I was able to see Wicked a few years ago. Live productions are so amazing. Sets, costumes, performers! So many creative and talented people to make it happen! I am so glad you said “Yes”.
